well american fighters always find themselves in big fights even if they lose so hatton shud be afforded the same opportunitys
its not as if he dont bring serious money to the table
actually its not a fact, its your opinion. lets get real here, cottos last 4 fights havnt exactly been brilliant have they, i mean 1 ko loss to an elite welterweight, 2 wins over 2 bums, jennings and gomez. and a good, but close win over a fairly decent welterweight in clottey. that aint anything to shout about to me. cotto is a good fighter but he aint the superstar every1 is making him out to be. if cotto was that confident he could beat hatton, then why didnt he fight him in 05 when hatton was lineal champ? not to mention hatton has won more titles than cotto. and beaten defending champions, something cotto has never done i will point out. cotto may will beat hatton now, but it isnt for granted. we all know hatton has seen his best days, but i maintain cotto aint all that. if he was that good he would not be the underdog against pac when the fight is in his division.
Saying **** like "he should have fought him in '05" is why you're "opinion" can never be taken seriously. Why isn't Berto fighting Floyd or Pac now instead of Mayweather? Because he wasn't a big enough name, he has no drawing power, and more importantly he wasn't ready. The perfect example is Fernado Vargas, there is a reason you don't rush fighters into big fights. Also, you are basing how people "look" in fights which is the worst thing anyone analyzing anything can do. Floyd look fantastic with JMM, he didn't look nearly as good against DLH, Castillo or hell even Hatton.
The reason Cotto doesn't look superior is because he is fighting the BEST in his division and its a VERY VERY talented division. If Cotto was garbage he should be losing those fights, and edging out guys like Jennings and Gomez. Instead, he makes those guys look like the chumps they are and has to WORK for a win with the elite guys in his division. I mean really, if this was right after the JMM fight for Pac and the Mosley fight for Cotto, the odds would be even worse than they are know for Cotto, it'd probably be 10 to 1 with Pac the underdog.
As for the topic, if Hatton were to step into that ring with Cotto he would not be KO'd early. He would be KO'd but he would be begging to Cotto to do what Manny did just to get out of that ring. He would be beaten to a pulp if that fight were to happen, win or lose. I agree Hatton's best bet is to fight Marquez and then see what happens from there.
Im a Cotto fan and even like Hatton. I do agree that he will create a buzz which is good for boxing, will be semi entertaining even to the hardcore, and will definitely satisfy the casual fan.
i agree, like i said before, id pick cotto. but for people to write off hatton as easy as they are is wrong. if you are 45-2, then you always have a decent chance against most, even if you are past your best. he is only 31 still.
