even WITHOUT a Cotto win, Pacquiao is the FOTD in a Ring Magazine article written by Michael Rosenthal and Doug Fischer.....

Even if Mayweather wins over Pac, it does not really count because this is not a boxing match as to who wins over who.....if Bhop KO's PBF, does that mean BHOP is the FOTD? of course not.....
FOTD examine's a boxer's resume for that decade.....SRL was the FOTD according to the Ring article even if he lost to Duran who was coming up in weight....
more importantly, a Pac-PBF fight next year would not count because the decade of 2000 ends at 12/31/2009

Mayweather did a lot in the early part of the decade..as where Manny was establishing his name..now that Manny's on top..Mayweather's doing some suspect ****..

so definitely would determine the FOTD if Pacquiao were to win..

Cotto became Pro in 2001 and has accomplished a lot..but not to the level of Mayweather or Pacquiao.

        Nice.

I think that even if Pac doesn´t wins, but puts up a competitive fight (like Duran in his fight with Hagler), it closes up the debate.

He actually edged out Castillo for the win, and there was an immediate re-match afterward. Somebody lost that one by unanimous decision.

Mayweather never gives rematches. The fact that he did, shows he knew he lost and wanted to come back and prove something.

              I had Castillo up 8-4.

u musta listened to the commentators too much, cause while the fight was close and coulda gone either way it woulda been by a point not 4 .... and ya he never gives rematches why would he theres never been reason too he has never lost a fight or barely a rd. he never thought he lost but some others did so he rematched jlc to prove his superiorty how can that be thought as a negative thing

First of all Pacquiao is fighter of the decade already no matter what happen. Some peoples will say it's Mayweather but trust me they are not going to give the award to Mayweather. He is a great fighter but his resume is very poor.

                    I vote yes.

If he doesn´t, Cotto might be one of the contenders, but I would vote Calzaghe.
He will be fighter of the year. If he wants to be fighter of the decade, he will have to fight and beat Mayweather and he won't do that. Bob Arum has already decided that Pac's next fight will be against Juan Manuel Marquez. He won't even try a SERIOUS negotiation for a Mayweather fight. However, he will claim that it couldn't be made and will make the Marquez fight. Then, all the clowns on this site will claim that Mayweather priced himself out when the truth is, Arum never had any intention of putting Pac in the ring with Mayweather in his next fight.
