People who want HBO to focus more boxing should study marketing. The show is not for die hard boxing fans like the ones who post in this thread. You will buy the fight without the hype because you know its significance.

The show is casual fans who do not even know the difference between a lineal title and a land title. The are more interested in the personalities, characters, and the drama. They comprise the big majority of the viewing public. If PPV is going to make 1M, the fight should sell to them.

#12 snoots86, how can you think that PPV is not doing well when in fact, PPV numbers are available only after the fight. No one is buys this early.

Obviously, Pac was just pulling Kimmel's leg when he said PacMan was his dog. So why are you taking it so seriously? I guess intelligence is a prerequisite to having a sense of humor.

Speed vs. Strength: Speed Takes This

It's a battle of strength and speed, then again, it's not that simple.

In terms of their fighting weight and their natural weight, MAC is 2 weight classes bigger than Pac. He is much stronger, consistently putting down much bigger opponents with sledgehammer hooks and a ramrod jab. He's shown that knockout power throughout his career.

Aside from a vulnerability to uppercuts, MAC has also shown no discernible weaknesses that his opponents could take advantage of. And he has underrated boxing skills. Review his fights with name opponents noted for their speed. He outboxed and outpunched them all. Yet more than the strength and his boxing skills, Cotto has shown the tenacity of a warrior who would not be denied.

But Pac won't just take Cotto's punches and lie down. The man has well over 50 fights, many of them against world champion fighters in 6 different weight classes. On the elite level, he's clearly been exposed to and has solved more fighting styles than Cotto. And if reports are true, he has enough pop at the weight, enough to bring down that heavy-hitting junior middleweight sparring partner of his a couple of times.

So while Cotto has a great chance to end things with his punches, I think it is more likely that Pac's featherweight-level speed and punch output, his footwork and awkward angles, his conditioning, those explosive combinations, and Roach's fight strategy will see him through this fight.

I'll walk the talk and bet all my measly points on that.

        Any takers?

That's an excellent analysis. You point out how it could go either way and make a case for your own pick. You won't get me to put up any points though.

They could have at least mentioned the significance of this fight and provide more highlights from past fights. There is a reason why boxing fans are so excited about this fight.

HBO needs to sell the historic angle of this fight. Ive seen enough of Cotto's family.

Guys, didn't you watch the whole thing? Afterwards, he did say that he played it when he was a kid. He just didn't understand the way Jimmy described it initially (gobble gobble gobble).

And yes, he does have a dog named PacMan. It was on Episode 2 of Pac-Coto 24/7.

What ever you see in these 24/7 is how they edit it and what they want to show you at whatever sequence they want. You can't take it all as an accurate following of the boxers training. If you listen the narrator is constantly describing everything like in poetic fashion. It would be better if they did it like a documentary than trying to make it into a soap opera

As noted in the past, they can do both. If the public is not educated, it is only because boxing has allowed for those things which make it special to be muffled. How long would it take to let people know that, hey, what you're seeing is as GREAT in the ring as it ever was?

i wouldn't be surprised if HBO is deliberately watering down the episodes.
remember when hbo alreadey proclaimed mayweather as the superstar in boxing.
what more, hbo and gbp are sleeping together for a long time now......

care to bet 5k with me that this fyt hits more >>>> ppv than floyd-jmm

Of course they watered down the episodes because they didn't invest any money in this fight. What are you an idiot? Pac and Cotto are both great in the ring but their personalities are boring, they can't promote a fight like Mayweather. HBO has money invested in this, it's just too bad they can't draw mainstream audiences.
