First of all, they're MMA fighters... second of all this fight probably didn't even happen, and lastly MMA fighters duke it out in the ring all the time if they respect each others wrestling and ground game. It's when they know a guy has no ground game that they take him down.
It was seen by Pat Miletich. THey had a CHOICE to take it to the ground. They chose to BOX. Ortiz has some of the crappiest boxing you'll see and he thought he could take out Lee Murray, the bonafied bank robber. Well that went well for him.
What I like to say; "Every fight starts standing up".
Just because you can take someone to the ground doesn't necesserily mean the fight is over. Wrestlers are VERY overrated on the ground. Take it from me, I infact DO wrestle. And here in Minnesota, Wrestling is gigantic. Look up Apple Valley. They have been consistantly in the top ranks of wrestling for decades. Alot of people undermine the ability of a boxers movements, and reaction timing. Me, training and doing both Wrestling and Boxing throughout my life, a boxer in a street fight has the upperhand. It's much harder to gain a dominant postion in wrestling fashion than it is to throw a great punch.... MUCH harder.
and Kimbo and Tim Sylvia aren't even wrestlers. With even an extremely basic groundgame Kimbo beat Mercer.
LOL. Kimbo slice? are you for real. The guy who got Ko'd by a Karate practitioner two fights ago.
I'm not taking away anything from wrestling--it obviously has its merits but to say they can easily take down a boxer like eating an apple pie is absurd. The chances of getting Ko'd is far more likely.
An MMA match is a lot more similar to a street fight than boxing is. And in MMA wrestling is the dominant base not boxing.
If you cant take a guy out, hand to hand, toe to toe, and you need 2 put him on his back(no ****) then you sir cannot fight, it only proves that you can take a guy down and throw wildly. amazing, its more impressive to KO somone standing, just leave now

Which proves my point... even a terrible MMA fighter with very limited wrestling experience beat a former a pro boxer Ray Mercer due to having some very basic wrestling training..
