I don't know much about either boxers. I do however believe were all humans and no one wants to kill anyone in the ring.

I don't think it affected him in his style of fighting because he remained an aggressive type of fighter. All you have to do is watch his incredible war against Wilfredo Gomez. However, he seemed to be sorry, like all normal humans would be, about the tragedy and even visited Owen's family years later. There's a documentary about the fight and its consequences.

On an extra note, a fighter who really was not the same after a similar tragedy was Ray Mancini. He was not the same type of fighter after the Kim fight and could never recapture the magic he once had.

I think it causes fighters to unintentionally hold-back in fights.

If the subject is of interest, you should check out the documentary and also the post-fight comments and reactions of Ray Mancini. Those are two of the most well known examples of deaths in modern boxing. Back in the 60's there was the Kid Gavilan situation.

I know about that fight, and I also know that Kim's mom was not so forgiven and I believe she took her own life. I do not know if she understood the concept that Ray did not mean for the death of her son. Or maybe she felt like it was her fault some how.

The ref also committed suicide. I think that, perhaps, there was some Asian tradition involved. Maybe the remorse had something to do with not believing that it was worth it to die for a title, for a sport. I'm just guessing here, but the tragedy involved several people that time. DuK Koo Kim was not the only one.
