David Haye Needs To Take Heed of Bob Marley's Advice

In his song Small Axe, Bob Marley uses the Jamaican proverb ‘a small axe can cut down the big tree’ to present a metaphorical image of how individuals can stand united against the malevolent state and chop it down through sheer weight of individual protest, this theory turned out to be nonsensical. However, David Haye could well do with listening to this song ahead of his WBA title fight with Nikolay Valuev at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung in Nuremberg on Saturday night. [details]

Valuev has shown a decent chin and OK power but he is far to slow and has pretty bad reflexes. David Haye should be able to outwork him and the speed difference will be huge. I also think Haye will be too fast for the slow Valuev to land a clean bomb on Haye's suspect chin. If the same Valuev that fought Holyfield shows up, I wouldn't be suprised one bit if Haye knocks the giant out, I hope we see a good fight.

Just as important is that he's learned his lesson from the Carl Thompson fight. I hope Haye wins but if he couldn't knock out Thompson I don't see him knocking out Valuev, at least not in the early rounds. If he can keep winning rounds, forcing Valuev to expend energy he may be able to knock him out in the later rounds but damn he better not be trying to knock Valuev out early.

Nikolay is a great guy but seeing him in the ring hurts. Another thing is that if Valuev wins then there is no unification for another couple of years whereas Haye won't settle with 1 belt. So go Haye, Go

Valuev is meant to lose. THis is his last fight with Don King and I think Don gave him a chance to earn some money while losing, either way judges are not going to him in this one on the opposite I think they are likely to help Dave this time.

The way I see the fight is:
Nice fight 1-3 rounds
Haye is trying to knock Nikolay out 4-7 rounds
Haye is getting tired and showing some Mayweather 7-12 rounds
Haye by decision.

Come on guys, I didn't make a direct like-for-like comparison. I said that Valuev is decent at cutting off the ring and that Big George was masterful when it came to closing space. Valuev's size helps him and if Haye is slow getting out then a few steps to him from Nikolay will cut the space down quickly. George was a decent comparison. Valuev is no great shakes but he does have some plus points.

The thing is though that Foreman was actually deceptively good at cutting off the ring, that is definitely true, he knew where to step and when to step, especially when he was younger. Valuev just doesn't have that, he really isn't deceptively good at cutting off the ring.

Aye, but what he dioes have is that size. He is generally on top of guys all the time but can be out-stepped, unlike George, who made Ali go to the roeps when Ali realsied that the big man was on top of him at all times. George had a top-notch team in his younger days, and his older ones for that matter.
