true, cutting doesn't always mean leaner and harder IF done incorrectly (poor nutrition can lead to loss of muscle instead of fat). I don't agree with you when you say that he didn't look ripped in the higher levels. Just look at his physique while training for the margarito fight.um...cutting doesn't always mean harder and leaner. im sure phil has more credibility/experience then anyone on this site. i'm pretty sure he's got it under control. Just cuz Cotto has always looked thick, and hits hard, doesn't mean he has a lot of muscle. Cotto has always been fat, since he was a kid. He got almost ricky hatton fat after his last fight, so he's cutting muscle and fat now. TONS of the fat is gone, and the little muscle he had to begin with is now showing. what's so difficult to understand about that?
if anyone knows anything about fitness, looks comes secondary to performance, if not tertiary to feel.

He looks VERY solid, but could still look more shredded. I know that not everyone's body is built the same, but the same basic principle applies. Less fat (while retaining muscle) means more of the shredded look. NO I'm not saying that he should look like Pacquiao, but what I'm trying to say is if he's coming down from that picture to a smaller size, and looking very lean, he still has fat to spare. But i'll play devils advocate and say that he's way too lean in that picture, and HAS to lose muscle to trim down further. Trimming muscle is a necessity if you're as lean as can be and still need to cut weight. I've seen it many times as a wrestler and requiring some lean heavyweights to go down and compete in smaller weight classes. In Cotto's case, wouldn't you agree there was a disproportionate amount of fat compared to his muscle. This leads me to believe that instead of maintaining as much muscle as he could, he wasted away too much in proportion to his fat mass.
In regards to your comment about about looks and performance, it is true that looks is not an indicator for performance, but only when comparing 2 different people (like cotto vs pac). If you're comparing one person in different stages of fitness(cotto at 147 and cotto at 145), then you can make conclusions of that person's body fat and muscle mass. And we both can agree that fat does not help a person's performance better than muscle mass.
did i say everyone had the same physique? not only can you not comprehend what i'm trying to say, you can't spell a simple word (twice for that matter) correctly. seems like you're the dumbMer one. try coming up w/ an argument to support your ****** ideas instead of resorting to ad hominem, and maybe i'll take you seriously. Your ****** ass probably doesn't understand that term though
