to make the public believe manny was that good and that he had an actual shot of beating a true welterweight. it's an intriguing and interesting fight on paper due to the good publicity and promotion given to pacquiao. now they're preparing their next guy which is miguel cotto.
Nice points, interesting read. I'm not sure if Manny's career path could be that fluidly orchestrated though, he's only human and most people thought he was a massive underdog in the De La Hoya match up. The Hatton fight was maybe more predictable in favor of Pacquiao, although again Hatton's size advantage and the fact he was a natural JWW meant he had some advantages, while Pacquiao had others.

I don't think Pacquiao or Roach would fight an opponent they didn't think they could beat either, money wasn't the only temptation with them. What I think is more probable within HBO's scheduling remit is that they're carving out careers for both of the boxers considering the various outcomes of this fight. If Cotto beats Manny, there might be a rematch or he'll either fight Mayweather, rematch Mosley, Clottey or even Margarito and he could rematch those 3 if he loses too.If Manny wins, again there's the possible rematch, fight Mayweather, Mosley, Clottey, or go down to JWW and rematch Marquez which are scenarios that could still happen if he loses, apart from maybe the Mayweather fight.

I guess with boxers of this caliber, HBO will probably anticipate all possible scenarios, win, lose or draw.
