  • David Haye: "Evander Holyfield Beat Valuev Easily"

Heavyweight contender David Haye says that he is not losing any sleep ahead of his fight with WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev on Saturday. Haye doesn't think Valuev is much to fear, even with his 7'2 frame and 320-pound body. He felt a "past his prime" Evander Holyfield easily beat Valuev last year, and he wasn't impressed by Valuev's fight with John Ruiz. Valuev barely beat Ruiz out, and Roy Jones Jr. several years ago jumped up from light heavyweight and dominated Ruiz. [details]

That's what Haye needs to watch and copy, except be more active; way more active. Haye is more then capable of pulling it off. Also I agree, Valuev won no more then 3 rounds, clear win for Evander.

He's been saying in other interviews how he know he needs to be ready for a tough fight, that Valuev may use his size but he's won 51 fights only lost once so shows he's a good fighter, more skilled now.

So you never know what to believe with this guy.

He's kinda right here but he's set himself up for embarassment if now loses to Valuev when a old Holyfield beat him. He even said Holyfield came up from CW to HW and showed it could be done, and that he's bigger than Evander!

I think it is a mistaken belief that Valuev has a great chin. Its more likely that when you punching that high up the power is lost, and its not natural to punch that high.
Basically Valuev isnt taking full powered punches. But because haye isnt that short, it might not be too much a problem.

Haye couldn't fight the type of fight Holyfield did.

Holyfield gave up some of his punch output to be able to give as much lateral movement as he did. Haye's output is already low without all the movement. If he tried that, he'd gas by the 7th.
