Freddie Roach Hints at Strategy To Beat Miguel Cotto

I think a few things:

(1.) Manny uses his speed to zip and zig and zag and that he'll move in and out.

(2.) Cotto is a sucker for uppercuts because of the way he leans over his front foot. He's also open for a right hook over the top.

(3.) If Manny lays on the ropes it will be a problem. Cotto throws quick combos, too and he can hurt a guy if he stands in front of him or has his back against the ropes.

Pac has to be cautious because he's not a real welterweight - or at least not as real as Cotto.

That's the thing. People are looking at Cotto like he can't box at all
or is slow as hell in the ring which is not the case. The only fighters
that give Cotto problems are pressure fighters or defensive counter
punchers because Cotto is always open for a counter punch. Manny
speed shouldn't be a factor against Cotto and not too sure that
Manny will be able to move in and out for 12 rounds without Cotto
landing anything on him. I'm curious to see if Manny can take a flush
power shot from a guy like Miguel Cotto.

I agree all day with this......IF Manny decides to plant ten toes down and exchange.....its a wrap!!! ......funny thing is thats what I expect him to do at some point and BOOM!!!......Manny goes to sleep!!

manny was slowed down by marquez twice,had manny thinking about the next move precisely and with all that manny couldn't do what he wanted,,always got jammed..some rounds where he is faded!!Cotto is much better than marquez,in countering and much stronger plus has a strong chin,,hatton didn't,money loosened it,de la hoya=drained...helloooooo,,look at the facts,,okay cotto looked like **** lately,,but this fight is like a break fight for him,a tune up!!pacquiao won't hit him as hard as others so he is good just til he can adjust to pacquiao,,manny is going to throw so many hard punches to equal cotto,,that he will get tired quickly..remember pacquiao hasn't been punched by cotto with no protection gear on the head!!cotto twisted margos head around,mosley's head around and clottey's head around,,,manny does not have a stronger body than these guys!!no no no

Roach is trying to use reverse psychology. He would want nothing more than Cotto being a counter puncher instead of stalking and walking down manny. Cotto doesn't fight well backwards and is not a counter punching fighter. Why would he suddenly do this against Pac when pac is clearly the faster puncher and punches in bunches. Cotto stalk pac into submission.

Exactly. Hopefully Cotto is doing what he said he is doing and ignoring all the strategy talk from Roach. IMHO he is because Cotto, for better and worse, does not give much of a **** what other people say.

Oh please. At bottom Pac is a brawler that Roach has turned into an aggressive technician. At some point he will set his feet and exchange with Cotto, that is unless he feels Cotto's power early and realizes that will get KTFO if he does that. But if he is behind in the scorecards he will do so anyway and that will be the end of it.

Ye, once again with the compubox argument. Give it a rest people. Mosley accepted that he got beat at fight night. It was competitive but Cotto clearly won. In fact there is a W next to his name that will never disappear. Move on!
