Insider Notebook: Cotto-Margarito Revisited;

So what this story tells us is that a whole lot of people either don't remember, or absolutely remember different things about that night.
We also have a fight where, for the first 6 rounds, Cotto was boxing Margarito's face off, and then one punch (from a volume puncher NOT known for 1-punch KO power) busted Cotto's nose and completely changed the fight.
Seeing as how Cotto doesn't show signs of slowing over the course of the fight - unless you're an idiot and actually believe Mosley won rounds 11 and 12 (which Cotto dominated) - I find it hard to believe that he suddenly slowed to a complete halt after one clean connect against a volume puncher.
Trainers become more and more creative in finding ways to cheat, and I'd hardly trust Evangelista Cotto's word as far as I could throw him.

Back to the plaster topic: If it was a chemical compound and not a solid initially, that's a substance which can be picked up at any home improvement store. The chemical is in a light, powder form, and through the addition of water forms a paste and eventually hardens. The appearance of which can be as thick as a brick, or as thin as paper depending on how much is applied. Wrapped over a tightly clenched surface, like say... a fist, it would be visibly undetectable, but rock-solid as the fighter started sweating over the course of the bout. Even after 11 rounds of action it wouldn't be visibly noticeable (hence no one seeing it while he was standing around the ring after the fight was over), but still firm enough to mess up someone's face.
Now, if the fight was a legit contest, then good for Margarito. Cotto did employ one strategy poorly. After scoring tons of points early on, he needed to then plant his feet and sit on his punches, followed by quickly moving to Margarito's left. This would do three things:
1. Heavier punches would slow Margarito's advances, and switch him from stalk-mode to defense-mode.
2. Moving to Margarito's left after delivering wouldn't allow him to develop his own rhythm, as he'd be forced to spin frequently.
3. Cotto would be avoiding Margarito's right hand, making him "half" of a fighter, or he'd be forcing him to punch across his body which would create more openings.

Its really really hard to imagine margarito not using loaded gloves against cotto period. In my opinoin he did. Lets think for a second. He tried to use loaded gloves against a so called over the hill shot mosley and didnt use it against a young 33-0 bull like cotto in his biggest fight to that date??? Yeah ****in right!!!
They aint fooling anyone, and i am not even a huge cotto fan like that. Cotto could probably take him in a rematch but someone needs to teach miguel how to hold and smother punches!!!! Mosley did it perfect and WON!!Last edited by EL ANIMAL; 10-29-2009, 12:30 PM.

the deal is that most of the people that say he used them vs cotto they are just assuming but assuming something doesnt means its true it could be true that he used them vs cotto but it is not just as how there are many reasons to think that he did use them there are also alot of reasons that someone could say that he didnt use them for example if he had plaster after the fight he would have taken the wraps off to hide it or how about cotto having a broken nose in round 2 because from what i heard it usually takes until round 6 for plaster to combine with sweat and harden but it is also su****ious that margarito is still friends with capetillo if he says he did not know which is also su****ious

I'm sorry but it wasn't one punch that caused the damage to Cotto, it was a volume of punches, including the punch that Cotto is very open for; the uppercut. Marg was already tattooing him with punches even though the harder shots were Cotto at first, not to mention Cotto was already taking damage by the 2nd round(which is when he got a cut over his eye and blood already leaking from his nose). You find it hard to understand why he came slowed down by the 6 round; because it took all his energy to move and fight for the first 6 rounds while taking lots of bodyshots and powershots to the chin. You take 200+ powershots to the ribs and chin and we'll see how well your stamina holds up.

I'm not trying to debate wethere someone cheated or not for the Marg/Cotto fight; no one will ever now except Marg and his trainer. what i am saying is this: This fight was a stylistic nightmare for Cotto from the start and if they fought 10 times, it would be the same outcome 9/10.
