In the case of Benitez vs Leonard, it wasnt Leonards defence that won the fight, it was fighting the right strategic fight.

Pep was beaten by Saddler, a great offensive puncher.

I think having a great defence only means ur great at not being hit, not that ur going to be more effective at catching an opponent with a great defence.

Floyds punches are very fast, very accurate and economic. So he tends to land much more than his opponent.
If he met a great defensive opponent, they would have to have a better offence than Floyd.

roger mayweather said the only WW who could beat floyd was tommy hearns. i disagree with him being the only guy who could beat floyd, but if i could pick just one guy i would choose hearns too. a tall guy with fast hands who can fight floyd on the outside would beat him. someone who has a great jab and can hook of it well. a smart fighter who can pick his spots and put punches togheter.

the second type would be a southpaw. the shoulder roll defense is ineffective against a southpaw, and floyd has to fight with a regular guard. which he does well too. but a southpaw with a good jab and quick hands, great combinations etc would be able to beat floyd. he had problems with judah early, corley is the only fighter to ever hurt him (not badly but stunned him twice).

anytime you fight a fighter whos as quick and accurate as floyd u need great defense though. if he fought katsidis like someone mentioned he would have a walk in the park offensively in which case his defense would be damn near impossible to get through. he wouldnt have to focus on finding openins offensively and he would just have to avoid getting hit and the offensive oppertunities will be there.
