I didn't think he got lucky...concidering Lewis looked his worse ever He was starting to get at Klitco toward the end of that fight...he was catching him with some wicked uppercuts ...and the punches Lewis was landing on that cut was ripping his face up !
Like Lewis said afterward " Look at the state of his face!..what more can i do to it "
That's not luck. He cut his face wide open with his PUNCHES, in his worst fight. He noticed he was slipping and got out while the getting out was good.
The only lucky thing about it was that he was lucky enough to be smart and stay away when you begin slipping.
Here's one of my posts from another Vitali/Lewis thread.
Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards. Lewis was badly hurt and was staggering around the ring like a drunk, he barely survived the 2nd round, was getting outlanded and was hurt again later in the fight.
punches landed
Vitali 156
Lewis 102
Lewis was exhausted and worn down from the accumulation of punches, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission that night and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.
All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and boo'd Lewis after the fight. Vitali was the real winner of that fight, he battered Lewis into retirement.
Lewis promised Vitali a rematch
Vitali destroyed Johnson in 2 and the scared Lewis retired like a coward shortly after that fight.
Lewis turned down 25 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew Vitali would destroy him and tarnish his legacy.

SO, let me get this straight.
If you retire because you think your career might be slipping, that makes you a coward?
