Have you all forgot who he is???
Just a couple of years ago, everyone wanted to see Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather because everyone saw him as the man with the best chance of beating Floyd. And now everyone has forgot about Miguel Cotto and has started talking about other fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, etc.
Why???
What happend in the past couple of years???
Ill tell you!
Miguel Cotto was destroying everyone in his way, beating fighters like Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana, Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah. Then he loses.
But to who? Yess..Antonio Margarito, A man who was trouble for anyone because of his steel chin, his 150 punches a round attitude, and not to mention HIS BIG DIRTY CEMENTED FISTS!
Then he faces Micheal Jennings, Cotto stalked his prey like an Animal then knocked him out in the middle rounds. Easy work (hardly a big name but it was a return fight so its acceptable)
And then Joshua Clottey who he beat by Split descion. Let me tell you something about Joshua Clottey, Clottey is the most underrated fighter in the world. He destoryed Diego Corralles (Sorry Diego R.I.P). He got a stoppage win against the very slick Zab Judah. He was beating Carlos Baldomir (the man who beat Judah, Gatti, and shared a ring with "pretty boy" Floyd) untill a DQ caused the first loss on Clottey's record, which by the way was complete "BS". And finally was making Margarito look like a complete bum untill a hand injury which was self-evident when you seen Clottey throw about half of his punch output seen in previous rounds, which allowed Antonio Margarito (cheat) to throw over 1600 punches, the most ever thrown in a boxing match, counted by compubox.
During the fight Cotto knocked Clottey down in the first, then got a waterfall of blood gushing out his eye soon later in the third, And then he fought on to win a split descion against in my opinion, the most underrated fighter in Boxing. No shame in that!.
So to some up!!!
Cotto was the most feared man in boxing, the man everyone said Floyd Mayweather feared and was avoiding. He had wins over genuine superstars of the sport, Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Paulie Malignaggi, etc
He then goes up against Antonio Margarito a fighter who De La Hoya and Mayweather turned down big money to fight, due to his hard chin, non stop pressure, and his extremley high punch output, not to mention the fact we all now know about the illegal hand wraps (no proof he used it in the Cotto fight but because he tried to use it in the Mosley fight, we know that hes at least capiable of using them, and when you think about it, he is more likley to use them against Cotto who is the man that beat Mosley, rather than just using them on Mosley himself.
He then gets stopped, and goes on to face Jennings who he makes easy work of.
Then he faces the most underrated fighter in Boxing (in my opinion), where he knocked him down in the first and then won a split desion with a really bad cut caused in the third.
So why has the public eye changed when they look at Cotto? Because of two contreversial fights in a very beautiful legacy? Because he lost to a fighter who at the moment is banned from the sport for being a dirty cheater? Because he won a only close descion win against the most underrated fighter in Boxing with a bad cut over his eye, caused in only the third round?
Is that why?

It isnt outlandish to say Vargas > Cotto
Winky
Quartey
alone are better than anyone Cotto has beaten with the exception of Mosley..
Vargas was 21-22 fighting world champions in there prime.
Cotto at 22 was being spoon fed tomato cans.
Cotto looked like crap vs Mosley, Tony and Clottey

The sparring partner is here to help us and make us work, not to have a good time, putting their hands down and showing off their skills. There are two kinds of fighters, those who grow in sparring and that are grow in the fights. And 'El Gato' is the one who likes to grow in sparring," Cotto said.
