What cotto said about El Gato is exactly what i suspected, he was probably in there not doing what he was asked in terms of emulating a situation. He probably saw this as an oppurtunity to upstage cotto and by alot of his comments i figured that was it. Cotto was likely fighting a certain way to prepare for a particular fight situation and El Gato likely ****ed around. This happens more often than you think. His comments about fighters wanting to grow in sparring is dead on, Juan Lazcano particularly comes to mind.Comment

As far as vargas vs cotto, this depends on which vargas were talking about. Alot of that depends on if were talking vargas after winky or vargas after trinidad. Reality is that Vargas would give cotto a very good fight, the thing is nobody really went to Vargas body like cotto would try to do. I honestly dont know who wins that fight. Vargas was a very highly touted up and comer coming out of the olympics and had alot of promise. He was rushed because Main Events thought he would go to jail before he would ever become big, so they threw him in with trinidad when they really had no buisness doing so.
Cottos best asset is basically timing and body punching, but Vargas was also excellent at timing someone as well, so i honestly dont know who would win. Vargas didint adjust very well midfight which cotto interestingly enough does very well. So who knows.
Most people in this thread never really saw vargas before the trinidad fight and it shows. Some of you have never seen him in his prime at all and it shows.Comment

What he said had nothing to do with hate, he answered in a realistic tone in regards to whats being said, he wasnt even disrespectful. I think youd like to believe that roach is "getting in his head" because it supports the notion your fighter will win. Cotto is not going to just go all crazy and change his gameplan, Cotto and Rocky Juarez have basically the same mentality.Roach talking becoming effective.. they want to roar the lion to come up in their liking! I don't believe he didn't care of Roach big mouth, because there were remarkable amount of hates in his tones the way he'd commented! I hope he will be cool in the ring to give more exciting fight on Nov.14!

Well, he beat Wright, and Quartey and Campas who were his biggest fights along with Trinidad, Oscar and Mosley. Amazing wins. That version of Vargas ie. before Trinidad would beat Cotto.
The again, he was a 154 pound fighter so it's not unusual that he would.Comment

Most of these people here have no idea the kind of hype Vargas got when he turned pro, and how he was one of the biggest prospects from the 96 team along with Mayweather. Most people in this thread never really saw vargas before the trinidad fight and it shows. Some of you have never seen him in his prime at all and it shows.Comment

Basically what you are seeing here is exactly what thread stealer talked about the other day. How most people right now are on here not so much because they are fans of boxing, but mostly to sukk another fighters ****. All of the sudden fernando vargas is relevant because he gave his opinion on pac/cotto, and what you are going to see is an echo chamber of talking points from the past that have been discussed here previously. Like the Vargas/Wright fight, in which winky didint push hard enough in the championship rounds and made it closer than it should have been. Ill be damned if Vargas, whos career was basically ruined by trinidad, would be Cotto to do ANYTHING successful.
This place, as fight time gets closer, becomes similar to an enviorment similar to politics, where talking points are handed out and the partisan threads get made, and individuals, writers, pundits who support their side are suddenly praised, and those differing in opinion are villified. When this fight is over, one side will shut up for awhile, while the other celebrates and well rinse and repeat. What makes it noticable is the fact that every ****ing thread is in relation to either pac/cotto/mayweather.Comment
