Critical view on Super 6 tourney, point system

So please tell me, do you think Kimball is right when he says that Abraham's motivation to get an extra-point for a KO stoked his will to deliver it and if this fight hasn't been part of a tourney, Abraham would have cruised to a points victory? Did it really cost Taylor his career?

IMO boxing fans always want spectecular endings and Abraham to me is a fighter who's always in search of a KO. For example, he could have cruised against Gevor, Oral, Ayala but still he went for the KO. To me, it's regardless if this is a tourney or not, a man like AA always wants to end a fight early it's about an image and of course money - so a KO is always good in terms of marketability...

didn't bother to read the article but willl answer your questions...

no, the extra point was not the main motivation for getting the KO, but it could've been a factor.

I had AA up on the cards and he could've cruised if he wanted, but it was better for him to finish with the KO, so that no one could claim a robbery.

Did it really cost Taylor his career?
yes. JT is done against elite caliber opponents. if JT continues his career, he's just a gatekeeper.

I disagree. Abraham is always looking for the stoppage and often wears down his opponents and stops them late. This was just later than usual.

And no, this did not cost Taylor his career. Abraham would have gone for the finish in any environment, and his career has been on the decline for some time.

IMO, the KO came naturally...that's AA's game...i didnt think he was 'pressing' to get that extra point

AA is the "King" of late round KOs and didn't look to me he was pressing for the KO. Furthermore, if he was pressing for the KO, who gives f.uck? Isn't that the point of boxing? To KO your opponent?...

Exactly you try and KO your opponent not beat around the bush.

Besides if you listen to his post fight interview he said something along the lines that his game plan was to study his opponent, let him wear out(which he did) and then catch him with a good shot. Sounds to me like he carried out his strategy pretty perfectly.

If Taylor doesn't get caught late in the last round, I think he moves on to the next round of the tournament. Getting whacked like he did, I think his career is now over.

I don't think so. RJJ got KO'd the **** out twice and look at him now. I think a big problem with JT as was mentioned in the telecast was his Mental Toughness. I think that is what he needs to overcome. He is a great talent, and a great fighter. I don't think AA was teaching him any lessons.

Lots of fighters give their all in the final round even though they are ahead on points. So it is for AA and so it is for Kessler.

Of course the points system is built to encourage knock-outs which might lead to some wild championship rounds in round 3 of the round robin as the boxers fight for that extra point that might give a ticket to the semis.

Nah. Think about it. Pavlik and Froch were able to knock him out. Abraham would have done it, super six or no super six.
