Oscar is a Hall of Famer. Hatton is a huge name and he ruled 140 for almost 5 years, and next there's Miguel Cotto, another big name.

The alternative is Guzman and Campbell? LOL. Neither of them will be remembered like Cotto, Oscar and Hatton.

I would rather have the names he has on his resume right now and the ones who come in the near future than Guzman and Campbell. If you would rather hang around at 135 and beat nobodies, fair enough, but I don't understand why you would do that.

Why just Manny? you can say the same for DLH or Mayweather. Your saying Ricky hatton and Cotto if he beats him would not be a great accomplishment? You have to re-examine your stance.

Not true for DLH at all. DLH defended every title he had, usually against the best competition.

You could say Floyd didn't really rule 140, because he just fought Gatti and then moved up to 147. But all other divisions he defended except for 154 and the only reason he didn't defend that was because he had moved up to DLH's stipulated weight of 154.

All of this is true, and completely understandable. But it also doesn't address my main point which is the way the term "6/7 division champion" is thrown around without any perspective as to how that was accomplished.

As I've said before, there's no doubt Manny has been a great champion, but not in all these divisions.

He is a great champion in general. I agree that you cannot look at any 1 division and say he ruled it but he stands alone in his accomplishments and moved up to conquer bigger challenges. That is what defines him. We had fighters who ruled their own weight class for years and have not accomplished what Manny has. If you were to access Manny's pacquiaos career and appreciate it, it is not about being a great champion in any particular weight it is about getting to the top of the sport and conquering it.

I say winning a belt means you won a belt.

Champions defend their belt.

then they shouldn't crown a person a champion for beating the former champion then.

they should crown you a champion after defending it.

but it doesn't work that way does it?



since winning the belt is what makes you champion , then pacquiao is a 6 division champion.
