AJ had a career-worst performance vs. Dubois; it was frustrating to watch but for a different reason. He looked like someone suffering from performance paralysis, and Dubois simply ran his ass over.
Dubois was doing subtle things to make Wardley miss, but Wardley did himself no favors. Wardley's strength is that he'll swing his way out of a bad situation, but seeing such inaccuracy was driving me crazy. I do understand that the swollen eye was affecting his accuracy too, but he was looking desperate before that. A lot of poor decision making. It seems like Wardley hasn't learned enough to maximize his athleticism. High athleticism + low ring IQ + strong chin + big heart = high drama and entertainment for us, but brain damage for him. Wardley was still reacting, but I think the corner/ref/doctor could've reasonably stopped the fight sooner if they wanted to. It's a title fight, so I do understand giving Wardley a chance to turn it around....but he was getting pummeled.
Who's the constant between AJ and Wardley? Ben Davison.
Hopefully we see Itauma vs. Dubois next, instead of an immediate rematch.
