    Benavidez beats Opetaia

Jai is too fragile. He would succumb to David’s heavy combos. No one beats David CW or below.

Before last night I wouldn't have thought so, had no reason to but he is still fast at Cruiser and his power is there so yeah those fast combos inside with the subtle defensive movements Fat Dave makes would be a real problem.

Right now, Opetaia beats him. Too bad the fight won't be next due to timing and many obstacles involved, but it's a future fight in the making that will bring enormous hype if they continue to dominate in their fields.

With his cruiserweight debut set for May 2 in Las Vegas, David Benavidez has been discussing another challenge — one he admits cannot be taken on immediately.

oh right so does that mean that david has no interest in jai yet?

he must not be staying at cruiser so what would be the point of that

Opetaia is like a long-term goal list in David Benavidez's mind. There is no way in hell his father and management team will let him fight Jai Opetaia next with just one fight at 200lb.

The source is from earlier this year, in January. I don't see why it still doesn't apply today. Post-fight interview, he said he's looking to go back down to 175lb and chase Dimitry Bivol next for the belts there - he also mentioned wanting a fight with Canelo still with no mentions of Jai Opetaia.

Yep. Promotional issues as well. PBC and ZUFFA are unwilling to work together. Benavidez's team also states Jai doesn't offer anything since he got stripped of his IBF Cruiserweight belt; however, he still holds the Ring Magazine title. They will use anything and every excuse to avoid a fight with Jai now. Why? Not because they're afraid, but because of the timing, other obstacles, and they simply aren't ready to face a deadly calibre of opponent like Jai Opetaia - he's the boogeyman for a reason.

Moving back down to 175lb with other big fights makes more sense because the Bivol fight will also generate a tonne of revenue.
