Comments Thread For: The Beltline: No champion, not even Oleksandr Usyk, deserves silly fights

The notion that a fighter of Oleksandr Usyk's standing 'deserves' to fight a novice is ludicrous when you break it down, writes Elliot Worsell

Our era is all about money, nothing else matters. Even the rich can't get enough of it. Artists and athletes are willing to lower themselves to have more, even when they already have plenty. It's a bit shameful, but we must acknowledge it and accept it.

Usyk can fight Rico or whoever he pleases, for the most money/easiest fight.

But for that, he drops down the P4P rankings.

No one deserves to take it easy for over a year, and claim to be the best in the sport.
No one gets a pass, that's total BS.

There are fighters who are actively beating the top guys in their division, and doing it more than once year.
Guys who are actually defending their mandatory opponents, whether they feel like it or not.
Usyk needs to move out of the way.

Exactly! There are active boxers who deserve the chance at Usyks titles in the time space that he is using to fight a 1,000% foregone conclusion fight against a non-ranked (goes without saying) fighter from a different sport.

I have stated for a long time, that Oleksandr Uysk has been mollycoddled as a Heavyweight Champion 'first masses of people within the boxing community, seemed to not want to acknowledge that he voluntary vacated his IBF titles. Instead many in the boxing media reported that Uysk was stripped of his titles'.

And it was not a impossible feat in my opinion for him to defend his titles, in the time period between his first and second scheduled fight against Tyson Fury 'there was a period of almost 7 months, in-between the two fights were in my opinion he could have fought Daniel Dubois in a rematch'.

Muhammad Ali fought two fights against Ken Norton I & II 'In the space of 5 months. And during the first fight he suffered a broken jaw'. If those are the fighters people want to compare Oleksandr Uysk to, then he has to produce comparable boxing feats and have a similar competitive conduct'.

This was when I noticed that, for whatever reason 'Oleksandr Uysk was being mollycoddled'.

Note: Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder 'the three Heavyweight Mountains of this era. None of those fighters as champions vacated their titles'.

Champions always have a contender to face, because that is how the game works 'there is never a point where a Champion does not suddenly need to fight their nearest competition'.

To conclude: Now Oleksandr Uysk as a fighter, has reached the stage of his career 'where he does not have nothing left to prove. He is the most accomplished active fighter in the entire sport'.

But for as long as he retains his World titles 'then this does make him the ultimate target for any up and coming heavyweight fighters. And as a Champion therefore he must fight those fighters that are deemed his nearest competition' etc.

Outworked was Mr One A Year against Daniel

Oleksandr had the lamest reign as a p4p king that I seen Spray_resistant

he made it there with a split decision over Flabby Fury

            then fought a good rematch

followed by an okay rematch then proceeded to jeet the rest of 2025 out

before forfeiting p4p king by facing a kickboxer in 2026 possibly his only fight of the year

            unworthy to remain boxing royalty

It's Usyk vs Kabayel or Usyk vs Itauma/Wardley in a pinch, or I don't care.

Absolutely agree. He doesn’t have to fight the #2 guy every fight, but the opponent should at least be ranked in the top 10-15 of the division and not some old kickboxer. This is embarrassing

Great article, and I agree completely! Boxing fans, along with Steelers fans, are easily amongst the most dense people on the planet, with the intelligence of a turnip.

Usyk must relinquish the belt or fight Kabeyal.
