It's not so much that he couldn't turn it down.

Though Benn is correct about discussing things in the heat of the moment and making matters worse. His mind was made up that he was leaving, so there wasn't likely anything good that would come of a discussion, particularly if he's the type of person who can't control his emotions.
It's one fight. Worth more than any other. I doubt anyone would've turned it down even the saintly AJ. Hearn could've matched it but didn't. Unbelievable publicity for the sport though. Hmmm........
