Boxing in the Black community has historically served as a powerful vehicle for social change, economic mobility, and psychological resistance against racism, dating back to enslaved individuals fighting for freedom. Black fighters like Jack Johnson and Joe Louis shattered racial barriers, using the ring to challenge white supremacy, while the sport provided a rare platform for fame and fortune despite discrimination.
foundational black americans also tend to have grit & animosity towards white people more than carribeans or africans and they tend to use boxing as a way to prove their racial dominance over their "oppressors " in a legal way. That's one reason why Deontay Wilder is still crying over Fury beating him, because it shattered his ego.
Most carribeans & africans dont go to boxing with that kind of mind set. They are ok with going along with their European superiors like how most of the best african soccer players play for white national teams or white leagues.
FBAs and Mexicans actually have cultural and ethic pride in their boxing. Ricans used to too but they fell off.
I’m black. They never let me forget it. I’m black, all right — I’ll never let them forget it. Jack Johnson
