Maybe a hot take but i think Lopez can win but not in the way most people think. I hear people say he must make it a brawl and come forward relentless pressure this and that.
I completely disagree. This is the casual take on how to beat a denfensive master boxer since forever and let's be honest when did that ever worked? And now we want a guy who has zero skills in applying intellegent pressure, cutting of the ring, volumne punching to do exactly this?
Shakur already beat guys that fight like this and matter of fact his best performances came against guys that exactly fight like this. My take is whoever stays more patient and does not feel the urge to entertain the fans will win this fight.
Lopez is a great counter puncher and he has every skill a pure boxer needs and wants. Plus he has decent power but as soon as he gets on the front foot and going to hurt guys all of this goes out of the window. He needs to make it so "boring" that people will boo and Shakur getting frustrated and confused on why he is not initiating the attack. The only punch Lopez must use to control and initiate is the Jab and every Jab needs to be explosive no lazy or probing jabs. Hand fighting with the lead hand can be a key but he should ot rely on it since i think Shakur will make this work for him.
At the end i suspect the mental game and the game plan will be the deciding factor. Lopez is mentally vulnerable to not say weak. If he does not understand that he can only win by doing what he is best at he will get frustrated and lose. If Shakur feels the urge to put on a show and get's on the front foot to please the crowd he will lose but i cant see Shakur being that ****** even if he tries he would understand that he is losing and switch it up again but maybe if he gets dropped early and is losing all the early rounds he has no other choice.
What i want to see here is a pure Chess match a high level high IQ chess match two guys at his best. Make the casuals boo and cry but show the real boxing fans that the current era of fighters still knows what the sweet science means.
You want a come forward guy against a Boxer watch Zayas vs Abass. You want to see a slick flashy boxer against a savage boxer puncher watch Kelly vs Bakhram. I will watch all of them : )
Great fights ahead of us.
Why is the word d.mb being censored? Are we really that sensitive in 2026? We are watching two men beating the life and health out each other but can't use these words? Oh boy

Because we've turned into a bunch of dum.b beaches. Anything that anyone complains about gets banned. On a boxing platform where people beat the sheet out of each other. Just dump as sheet.
Interesting fight. Stevenson is the type fighter that gives Lopez problems but Lopez always performs better vs better competition. Stevenson by close but unanimous decision. 115-113 2X and 116-112.
One of the facts mentioned in this article is incorrect. Matt is confusing talk about "complete package" fighters with the talk years ago about a new generation of "Four Kings" in the lightweight division. Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez and RYAN GARCIA were being hailed as the "second coming." Shakur was not included in the mix, mainly because he was not a lightweight at the time. Although, even then Shakur was viewed as a future pound-for-pound star.

Yeah, that feels right. If Lopez scores early, this fight becomes way more interesting. But I think Lopez has been cruising on the heels of the Lomachenko win for so long, no one realizes he really has not looked great lately. I am not the biggest Stevenson fan, but I think his style frustrates Lopez and he does just enough to outclass the more active Lopez.
