It's not one belt per weight class, it's one belt per weight class for each sanctioning body or unified boxing organization.
If you do one belt per weight class, the champ MUST defend 4* a year

Inoue did this and he said he felt pretty burn out. We would solve a lot of these problems if the WBC and other sanctioning bodies enforced their mandatories. I know back in the day those Champs fought in about 100 fights and everything. I'm sure that some of those guys they shared the ring with were fighters and I also know for a fact some of them were just "fighters". 4 times seems unrealistic to me because you do have a family, friends, injuries, boxing politics, and other issues. Ideally, 3 would be great but twice a year is good too.Comment

I'm no fan of Dana but I can't stand WBC Suleiman and his corruption and doing what they want, same for WBA and their joke regular belt. So I'm all for Zuffa taking off if it means them clowns in the other organisations are forced to get their act together and do better like not favouring fighters (WBC), mando demanded when due and not pick and choosing when to, ranking each others champions etcComment

Only Floyd can be that damn good where Juan, Shane, and Miguel are cherries
at his worst he still included 3 hall of fame opps during his once a year program from 2009 to 2012
2009 JUAN
2010 SHANE
2011 Victor
2012 MIGUEL
then from 2013 onwards Floyd finished off his career BUFF on a twice per year schedule that included hall of famers SANTOS and Manny
2013 Robert
2013 SANTOS
2014 Marcos
2014 Marcos well deserved rematch
2015 manny
2015 Andre
compare that to these:
2021 Shawn
2022 David
2023 Errol
2024 Israil [TBud ducked the rematch]
2025 SANTOS
AND
2021 BBC Josh
2022 BBC Josh
2023 Daniel
2024 Flabby Fury
2024 Flabby Fury
2025 Daniel
Floyd RECTIFIED the error of his ways by returning to two fights per year. These guys ended as one a years!Last edited by SouthpawRight; 01-25-2026, 08:32 PM.👍 1Comment

You can't be considered #1 in the sport, by only fighting once a year.
Imagine if Bud really defended his belt vs all the mandatories? People wouldn't be talking like this about him now.
4 title defenses in 1 year is too much. But you have to do it at least 2x, and not cherry pick.

this is why I have Naoya ahead of OleksandrYou can't be considered #1 in the sport, by only fighting once a year.

Naoya was QUADRUPLE the work rate
once a year against a contender won’t cut it
simple enough for Oleksandr to p4p king again given all the favoritism towards heavyweight boxing

Incorrect. What's required is a culture shift back to the pre-alphabet era which accepted not everyone can be a 'world' champion. 2 or 3 defences a year is acceptable and if the champ is injured you wait your turn rather than fight for some fake belt.
Contenders will fight actual top ten guys rather than bogus eliminators and weak opponents whilst sitting on 'mandatory' positions.☕ 1Comment
