Sound like he moved up when he knew the coast was clear
Shane Mosley did not officially call out Floyd Mayweather during their shared time at lightweight (135 lbs). Although both were in the lower divisions earlier in their careers, Mosley moved up to welterweight as Mayweather remained at lower weights, and they did not fight until 2010 when both were older, well after the lightweight era.

Shane Mosley officially challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring immediately following Mayweather's victory over Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19, 2009. The two engaged in a heated confrontation on the live HBO pay-per-view broadcast, which led to their highly anticipated showdown on May 1, 2010, at the MGM Grand

Any MFer with 100+ W's will only have maybe a handful of quality opps.
There will never be an era where the sport has that many capable fighters to accumulate that many wins.
      NEVER !
If an era is muddied with pretenders or those who will do anything to put food in their bellies, well, boxing is the easiest way to get er done.

Would SRR have been legit regardless of era ?
      Possibly
To anoint without even asking questions is the worst kind of fan there is.

Floyd always got excuse to not fight the people best qualified to best him. So why floyd not fight thurman, bradley, brook, khan, spence, bud, etc etc guys in his own division?

Sugar Ray Robinson famously avoided a fight with the highly skilled Charley Burley, reportedly stating, "I'm too pretty to fight Burley". Burley, a formidable master technician from the "Black Murderers' Row" era, was considered too risky and dangerous for a high-profile, low-reward matchup.

Key details regarding this famous boxing anecdote:
                  • The Quote: Robinson supposedly made the "too pretty" comment while watching Burley fight from ringside, highlighting the danger Burley posed to a champion's reputation and face.
                  • Burley’s Reputation: Burley was an exceptional defensive and counter-punching technician who was avoided by many top contenders and champions.
                  • Avoiding Risks: Robinson reportedly doubled his price to fight Burley, ensuring the fight would not happen.
                  • Financial/Career Factors: Experts argue that fighting a dangerous, non-marquee opponent like Burley offered little financial gain for a rising star like Robinson.
Despite the quote often being used as evidence of a "duck," some analyses suggest it was more of a pragmatic business decision rather than fear.

Charley was the best skilled among a group of widely ducked bbc boxers

instead the anybody, any weight mentality was found in Harry, Sam, Henry, Ezzard, and Archie

Sugar Robinson and manny were superstars

boxing superstars always have tactical matchmaking that results in missing some names
Didn't know that but it would be FOOLISH to call SRR & Pacquiao 'duckers' given that they've both fought a murderer's row of opponents in different weight classes including in their 40s.

I don't want to turn this into another Pacquiao vs. Mayweather discussion (this thread is about SRR), however, given Mayweather's track record of only fighting top opposition after they've suffered multiple losses e.g. Pacquiao, Cotto, Marquez, DLH, Mosley etc., I DON'T believe Mosley was the one who stalled the fight.
