Better counter-puncher: Pacquiao or Cotto?

Cotto has better boxing ability than Pacman period!!Pacman's ability is based on shear speed & explosiveness,plus his work ethic is first class!!It's like Pacman was born to be a fighter,whereas Cotto learned the art of fighting!!

Roach is trying to get Cotto to press the fight and come straight forward like a Ricky Hatton clone so Cotto gets embarrassed. Roach will resort to name-calling like Cotto is a running because he doesn't want Cotto to box Manny at all. He wants Cotto to come straight forward like a one dimensional fighter like Carl Froch.

The thing about Pac is...up till recently he was mostly a volume, straight forward type of fighter. So any countering he did, was thanks to the sheer volume of punches that he was throwing.

But as others have said, in the Hatton fight, he got more pinpoint. And we didn't get to see much of his skills in that fight, cuz it ended so quickly. But it seemed like he had rounded out his skills nicely from earlier in his career.

So my answer is, on paper, Cotto probably counterpunches a bit better. But Pac is not the same fighter we saw in the say... JMM fights. He has improved vastly, while everyone else just seems to stay the same, or decline..

Exactly right, IMO. It was in fact the JMM fights that forced Pacquiao to become a better all-round fighter because in the first fight he really needed a right hand. Since then, he developed his right and it's now almost as powerful as his left, but his counter-punching ability and balance are way better, too.

Cotto is the superior conterpuncher of the two, however Pacquiao is coming alone in this category also. Look at his last fight agains Hatton... he wait for the miss and then bamm!

I agree with Pully, to be honest. Cotto has no reason not to steam through Manny. He is the bigger guy. He is the champ and Manny is the smaller challenger coming up in weight. So why should he be running and countering Pacquiao? He will look like a ***** unless he beats the **** out of Manny.

Neither of them are, but in the last few fights Pacquiao has shown superior counter punching skills. Against Marquez and Hatton he used lots of counter punching.

I've never seen Cotto try to purposely make someone miss to counter them.

I suggest you watch early Cotto fights.
