Nonito and the Moloneys always seem to be in line for another title shot.

To be fair, that's what a lot of them say or are like. If you've done something all your life into your 40s, what the hell do you know in life? You've collected million dollar paychecks and now you're just going to take up a career now making an everyday citizen type salary?
How is consistently getting high rankings and title fights mismanagement?
Nonito isn't broke, he's fighting because it's all he knows. He lives like a monk -- never misses a day training, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, sleeps 10-12 hours every night, never takes a cheat day from his diet. His wife was a high level Taekwondo champion (won a collegiate national championship and a US military championship) and she's also his strength and conditioning coach. His father was a fighter, his brother was a fighter, his cousin was a fighter, his wife's father handles his security. Their entire family dynamic has involved combat sports for their entire lives. When he retires he will almost assuredly become a full time trainer.
There are a lot of weird incels that hate Nonito's wife and think she forces him to fight for some odd reason, but he fights because he loves it.
If anything, I wouldn't mind seeing him in some other sort of capacity in boxing. Either training other fighters or putting on a podcast. As weird as this sounds, I don't like Nonito much as a commentator because he instantly sounds more like a fanboi and less of a boxer. The way he gets excited during the fights is kind of too much at times. Though that same personality I think would make for a great sit down show on YT or something.☕ 1Comment

Yeah, but like I said, with Donaire it's not just him. His entire family has spent a lifetime in combat sports. Even before he met his wife she was an elite Taekwondo competitor and all of Nonito's male relatives were boxers before he picked up the sport himself. It's a lot harder to get away from the sport for a guy like that compared to, say, a Terence Crawford who is the only fighter in his family.

And my overall point was to contradict the people here implying that he's only still fighting for financial reasons. Donaire is responsible with his money, he's not out there buying several Ferraris at a time like Floyd or keeping pet tigers in his home like Mike. He's fighting because he loves it.Last edited by famicommander; 01-02-2026, 03:54 PM.Comment
