I feel like the hate Haney gets is from his style, his reaction to getting hit, and his dad.

His style: at worst its his fight against Ramirez. No punches for 30+ seconds round after round. At best he knocks down his guy like Norman and Prograis. But most time its a zero risk jab and move.

His reaction to getting hit: He looks scared. He clinches and hugs like he's in love. Against Linares he was buzzed and clinched for 2, 3 rounds. There's a clip floating around where Lomachenko lands a punch and Haney gets a spooked looked and immediately backpedals. Not a good look.

Finally his dad. It's obvious that Bill is trying to live vicariously through his son and that's annoying to a lot of people.

Mix all this together and that's why people give Haney more stick then Bivol.

That was an excellent break down of the welterweight eras. Not saying i agree with all you said but still excellent nonetheless. Now, if not for a mental lapse at the end of the first Sugar Ray fight, Hearns would be considered the greatest welter in the past 50 years. He was an absolute problem for any welter, in any era.
