You make some great points here. The event based nature of boxing makes the stakes for losing very high and means fighters taking risks want ever more compensation, which contributes to the frustrating negotiations. We'll probably see this play out now with Boots and Ortiz.

There is another aspect of boxing, and I'm upset I didnt think of it earlier, that may contribute to this.

There are essentially three types of sports: measured, officiated, and judged. Measured are sports like most track and field events, swimming, weight lifting, where the competitor completes a task on their own and tries to do it better than others. There is no direct competition, and the outcome is objective. Officiated is one where competitors directly compete against an opponent (most of your team sports) though the scoring is also for the most part objective (ball goes into a hoop or over a line, etc). But then there are judged sports, diving, gymnastics, etc where you want to impress a judge who is scoring subjectively.
Combat sports are a mix of the last two- you can score a KO making it somewhat officiated, but if not then it goes to the cards; which, like it or not, are subjective. Ray Arcel used to comb Duran's hair in between rounds to make him appear subjectively better. Boxer's raise their hand after a given round, or shake their head when connected on to act like they are doing better than the opponent. Boxing is a sport where often times the winner is determined by whose performance a small group of judges liked best. So in that way, boxers are designed to seek approval.😎 1Comment

I DON'T think Pacquiao avoided Crawford...he isn't the type to shy away from challenges (i.e. fighting Thurman & Barrios in his 40s plus he had a fight lined up with Spence before he pulled out with an injury). Also, Bradley was the Welterweight champion at the time (and a much bigger name) which is why he fought him 3 times. That's cute
but I was responding to YOUR inquiry about why TBud is some type of way about it
We can only speculate how much influence manny had in him avoiding TBud
sweet tea sipping brits amuse

- Julio Cesar
In other words, don't believe everything Crawford says plus he sold ZERO PPVs back then which is probably why Arum didn't make the fight.
As for your list, I know you have an affinity for BBC fighter's but it's a crime not to have Pacquiao in the top 10!Comment
