Dmitri Bivol, whom I think is a first-ballot HOF’er and a top five or six fighter in the world, goes the distance at about the same rate Haney does. He scores knockdowns at about the same rate Haney does. And he puts himself at risk at about the same rate Haney does. But you rarely hear him called a “boring runner”. Let that sink in when you think all of this Haney criticism is coming from a purely objective place.
Does he clinch and hold at the same rate Haney does? I can scarcely recall Bivol holding even against Beterbiev. Haney does it systematically every fight.
And by the way, saying Bivol "puts himself at risk at about the same rate Haney does" is a load of drivel. I see you tried to slip that one in there like it's a statistic. Bivol lets his hands go in combinations and punches with authority, he's not a jab-and-grab merchant like Haney. He boxes his way out of trouble using footwork and punches, he doesn't just grab hold and look to the ref for separation.
They're not the same, and it has nothing to do with the colour of their skin (which is clearly what you're trying to insinuate). It's boring and predictable. Bivol is a classical boxer, Haney is a spoiler. They're both difficult to beat but for different reasons.
"When Benn and Garcia are talked about or interviewed you rarely hear their positive PED test brought up. You rarely hear about their shortcomings as fighters"
i really dont like it when people go on about oh this fighter gets so much hate so why doesnt this other fighter get the same amount of hate which im perceiving somehow, in this case why is bivol an ATG and haney a clown LOL, yeah its because bivol a half korean russian is just so popular and everyone hates haney?? is that it?? ryan garcia and eggie benn get plenty of crap from all sorts of places plus their daddy haney is not on and on and on about his son being the greatest since ali with devin himself not far behind in what he says, when in fact the biggest thing hes famous for is attempting to be 2 division heavier then anyone he faces in the ring & then having to rely on a judges call to get over the line v loma who he looked at least 2 division bigger than as well, yeah everyone is forced to like him i guess or else
hes not very likeable for many reasons: easily beaten by loma but got a gift decision, beaten up by ryan garcia who was a cherry pick gone wrong, inflated sense of greatness, terrible huggy style that is never punished and is borderline unwatchable
Because he has already completed the game, and been an Undisputed Champion in boxing.
I will single out Conor Benn? In his most recent win vs Chris Eubank Junior II 'Benn stated that he has completed the game and no win will ever top his rematch win'. I don't really think Conor Benn should be mentioned in the same bracket as Devin Haney, as Benn still has never fought in a real fight'.
As I have stated many times before? All of Conor Benn's fights have been manufactured in a way, so the likely-hood of him winning is increased 'that is why Eddie Hearn and team matchroom, were so insistent on mandating a rehydration clause in the two fights vs Chris Eubank Junior I & II'.
Note: Devin Haney no matter what people say? Has won legitimate world titles, and been involved in many high jeopardy fights 'that have not been manufactured tactically, so the likely-hood of him winning is increased'.
Even Devin Haney's first fight vs Ryan Garcia, in reality that fight was not a fair or equal fight 'As Ryan Garcia in my opinion, did not even attempt to make the weight limit of 147 pounds. So therefore he would have been preparing for the fight, with an advantage in training camp. Garcia was not training or competing against Haney under the same conditions, that is an absolute fact'.
To conclude: I personally don't rate Devin Haney super highly as a fighter, but? I acknowledge that he has been a legitimate world champion, and he has achieved a lot in the game. That is why people will criticise him, this happens in all sports'.
Conor Benn in my opinion, has not reached the level in the game 'where he is receiving that type of criticism. If somebody from within the boxing community? States that Benn has not really fought in any real fights thus-far in his career, that is not criticism. It is fact'.
Benn has not fought for any major domestic or European titles 'and he has neither fought the best competition in Great Britain. All of his fights have been tactically manufactured in a way, where the likely-hood of him winning is increased. None of what I say is criticism, in the same way people try and put down Devin Haney. What I am stating about Benn's career thus far and how it has been managed is just a fact of the game'.
Overall Devin Haney receives more criticism than the latter two fighters, because he has already achieved a lot in the game 'and when you stand at the top of the mountain, even for a brief moment. You become a target for many people' etc.
Haney got beat by Loma and got a crooked decision. Garcia beat the crap out of him and we are all supposed to act like he was on steroids and test when in reality he tested for a tiny amount of Ostarine, a crappy stimulant that does basically nothing.
Haney is a talented fighter with a glass jaw. No one that I have seen cares about his skin color. Some people don't like his personality, which is fair because he acts like a killer and then he illegally holds for much of the fight, blatantly, and he is just allowed to do it. Why? You tell me.
This whole "people don't like Haney because he is a boisterous young black guy" routine is absolutely laughable. People love Bud and I specifically have for years, people love Itauma, people loved Spence.....etc etc. People like a fighter because he goes in to hurt their opponent and isn't afraid to mix it up.
Haney and others can be respected for their skill level, but in the history of boxing, no fighter who fights to not get hit, hugs and clenches constantly and barely ever stops anyone has ever been a big star. That style makes for boring fights to the casual fan. Yes if you train and know the sport well, a technical defensive fight can be impressive. I don't put Haney in that category because hugging isn't all that technical. It is technically cheating.
Can we please stop this "poor Haney never gets respect" routine? He is boring to watch and acts like he is some monster fighter. NO ONE who wins as he wins is going to excite people or get much respect from fans. Period.
Those two fighters have been outed and pounded on for their failures in testing. Meanwhile this dude was melting down for most of his career at no impact to his gas tank while in victor contes camp and nobody batted an eye. Also, those two fighters while maybe less naturally gifted than him at least have exciting fights, they go for the kill if they smell blood in the water. Haney does not, will not if he’s got any kinda lead going into the second half of a fight.
