This entire situation is farcical, and yet another example of the massive accommodations made for US fighters. Bear in mind, Romero only has this belt because the WBA broke their own commitment to eliminate 'regular' titles and sanctioned a fight between him and Garcia for their 'vacant' welterweight title, despite neither ever having fought at the weight class. This inserted another titleholder between WBA #1 Giyasov and the actual champion at the time Ennis. When Ennis moved up, Romero became the full titleholder by default, a position he is now leveraging for undeserved bigger paydays.

The WBA will no doubt find a fudge rather than simply strip Romero.
