Stringing yourself up from the rafters does seem a tad dramatic.

I knew a young lady who tied a belt round her neck and to an attic ladder knelt down and leant forward.

Nah...she was part of a religious cult, was sexually abused as a child by her grandfather with the whole thing covered up.

Me and my dad found my uncle hanging when I was 8, I've been OK with it, wasn't for a year or two as I had nightmares, my dad not so much unfortunately, he was really bad with the drink and depression, ruined his marriage but he's in a better place in his 70s enjoying retirement and the grandchildren.
