I am shocked how many Opportunities the Moloney brothers have gotten without actually haven't even earning it.
Kind of like George Kambosos and Tim Tszyu, though at least Tim had proved he can win spectacularly against multiple top fighters.
Kambosos earned it the hard way. He beat Mickey Bey in the US (former lightweight champ), then Lee Selby in the UK (former featherweight champ), then Teofimo Lopez in the US (reigning unified lineal lightweight champion).
Then instead of taking his belts into witness protection like Opetaia, Kambosos actually put them on the line in a fight everyone knew he would lose against Haney.
Nobody thought Kambosos could come to the US and beat Bey but he did.
Nobody thought Kambosos could come to the UK and beat Selby but he did.
And absolutely nobody, especially not I, thought he could beat Teofimpo Lopez in the US but he did.
He was a B- fighter that won three straight upsets on the road to become the unified lineal lightweight world champion.
Moloney doesn't begin to compare. His best career win was against a faded, 7-loss Luis Concepcion. Every other time he got to the world level he lost decisively.

That's a good way to describe Kambosos, George beat some world ranked contenders and pulled off a big upset against a two division unified world champion in Teofimo.
With Lee Selby bouncing back at Lightweight after a close fight with Warrington at two weight classes below, Selby had beaten Ricky Burns.
Mickey Bey who was a world champion at lightweight 3 years before their fight. Had bounced back with a win a year earlier.
He had a debatable win over Maxi Hughes in 2023, but it was quite competitive and Hugues was ranked, at least high enough for a IBF lightweight title eliminator.
Rest of Kambosos notable losses wwere against Haney X2, Lomachenko and Hitchins. Four of those losses close to each other at the end of his career. He was however beaten quite dominantly by the top level fighters. Like a Greg Haugen.

His win against Lopez aged magnificently, but that was clearly the peak for him. He was never going to sneak up on anybody again like he may have in that three fight run to the top.
