Comments Thread For: Virgil Ortiz respects Erickson Lubin for doing what Xander Zayas and Boots Ennis would not

Of course Vergil Ortiz Jnr would like to be fighting for a title, but in building this reputation as boxing?s most avoided fighter, the 27-year-old Texan sees nothing wrong with moving on from the reluctant champions and fighting his third consecutive top-five-ranked opponent in the sport?s deepest division.

Just once i would like to hear fighters talk about the fans the fans need to have a sport that is more accessable to them the fans should have more fights and less talk the fan needs to have fighters who are willing to take more risks and not be affraid of loosing the "OH" in the ring. ...............

Turki should just maka a 154 Tournament
Ortiz, Fundora,Murtazaliev,Zayas, Bohachuk, Lubin, Ennis, Thurman. Raffle their names and match up..

Make sure Zayas fights in Puerto Rico otherwise he wont take the match. Watch, he will pick Josh Kelly next over the Ortiz fight for LESS Money.

Who is ducking him. Last time I heard he took another fight for more money when Zayas was in the mix and now that Zayas has the title they would not agree to fight in PR like they are the A side. He forgets how many times his fight against Staniones got postponed and then cancelled.

He was on his way to be one of the names in boxing but he had to take a break for his health and that derailed him.

When Boots made the decision to go to 154 Virgil posted a pic saying his hand was hurt and his father said that Boots missed his chance (when he was a weight class lower) and he needed to get to the back of the line. Now the story is they've sent Boots two contracts?

Aside from that, this is a good fight. Lubin has not looked the same since the Fundora war, but at least he's coming off of a win. Both are great offensive fighters m, but I believe Ortiz has the better chin.

Having a belt doesnt make you the A-Side.

But breadman made a good point on twitter the other day...when is the last time youve seen a promoter put their new champion under 25 yrs old in a fight where he would be an underdog? Zayas wont be fighting Ortiz nor unifying anytime soon.

Zayas was upset that he did not get the Ortiz fight. Ortiz is not a star and neither is Zayas. they have regional fans and are tied up to promotional companies but neither is a superstar. Zayas has the title and since they are more or less even if Ortiz wants it he can dictate the contract that would favor him.

In the end that is the part of boxing I don't like is the negotiations and promotional affiliations.

I’m sure Bakrham Murtazliev would’ve taken that fight no problem.

He didn't take it. It was offer to him without the IBF Rehydration clause and he denied it. Murtazaliev wants to make sure Ortiz is weakend.

                  Minute 7.25

Ortiz already beat 2 Eastern Euros. Madrimov and Bohachuk. I doubt he would duck Murtazaliev. I'm sure Bohachuk can beat Murtazaliev. Murtazaliev hasn't done anything other tha beating "Tim Tszyu" coming of a loss. Who Lost Fundora. Fundor got wreck by Medonza. So we know Tim was never a top 10.

This article has clarified many things for me. Ortiz is a straight shooter. He is a humble guy not afraid of any challenges. I believe what he is saying. I have been critical of him not fighting for a title but now I have a better understanding of the circumstances.
