That's a great post! A little emo there at the beginning but, I don't argue anything there. I don't argue that Francis Ngannou has continually developed.
So you can relax reading this.
Did you not see where I rank him as a well rounded Mixed Martial Arts legend?
My dialog spoke to his history, of which I am better familiar with than you might imagine, kicking around this since Fighting Sports Newsletter times.

So back to what I DID try to relate; People say Francis Ngannou isn't a boxer.
They're Wrong.

Let me remind you of what you actually said:

A boxer is ALL Francis Ngannou is. The Wrestling, Submission Grappling and Kickboxing/Muay Thai that he possess is that of a non-fighter student.

Again, there's no backtracking. You didn't say he was well rounded. You didn't say he continually developed. You said a boxer is ALL he is. Your emphasis.

95% of Ngannous MMA game pre-Gane fight was him just using boxing + takedown defence. He is widely regarded as the biggest puncher in MMA history and was also considered to have a great chin due to never being rocked in his entire MMA career. So he might not officially be a boxer, but to see him get dominated at the thing he does best by far in MMA and get his supposedly iron chin cracked that easily still killed his aura.

He was also fighting a gold medalist 250 lb heavyweight, it's not like McGregor fighting a 40 year old 20 pound smaller guy with brittle hands, he could eat a lot of those shots

People forget how much he was hyped up when he fought Stipe the first time, Dana basically already crowned him the new UFC Heavyweight champ during the press conferences and showed a lack of respect for Stipe.

Yep, the UFC pretty much openly wanted Ngannou to beat Stipe for the belt.

HW in the UFC has been rough for a long time now. I would say it goes as far back as Stipe and DC, the way they shut down the division for years with that trilogy only for DC to retire right after and Stipe to get his head caved in and lose the belt in his next fight. Then Ngannou making one title defence (in an underwhelming fight too) and leaving as champ, then obviously this whole Jon Jones debacle wasting even more time. Its a ****ty division. Its a shame because I would say in the first half of the 2010s HW MMA was better than HW boxing, now its not even close.

How multifaceted is his striking game though? someone like Gane is absolutely a fully fledged striker, but Ngannou was pretty much all punches.

Any way you look at it, getting your **** pushed in like that is going to lower your stock regardless of if its a different sport or not. If Usyk strayed over to MMA for some bizarre reason and got himself tapped out inside 2 mins that would hurt his image too. But in Ngannous cause it was much worse because he was supposed to be an iron chinned power puncher who routinely decapitated people in the first round in MMA.

If Ngannou had stopped after the Fury fight he'd probably be the most respected HW on the planet right now, guy left the UFC as champ then arguably became an uncrowned boxing champ too. But he took one fight too many and it all came crashing down.

I definitely wouldnt have Ngannou second either in ability or resume. I would say Big Nog is no2 resume wise. Head to head ability wise on everyones respective best night i'd take at least Fedor, DC and Cain over him, I think guys like JDS, Reem, Werdum, Cro Cop, Barnett and Kharitanov would have all had a decent to good shot at beating him too.

Jury is out on Jon vs Ngannou because we barely saw Jon at HW and the HW version was past prime. And its too early to say what Toms ceiling is, hes kind of like his countryman Itauma, looks incredible but its against underwhelming opposition. Unfortunately in Toms case unlike Moses, there is nobody all that great out there for him to beat to ultimately prove himself.

When a heavyweight fighter has those traits combined with great athleticism, power and work ethic. For any novice boxer such as Francis Ngannou, beating Anthony Joshua was always going to be his biggest and most dangerous challenge'.

To conclude: Anthony Joshua was quite simply better at everything Francis Ngannou could do as a fighter inside a boxing ring 'Pound for pound Joshua is the better athlete, most likely his has greater level of brute strength, speed, power and endurance. And skill for skill he was a by far superior boxer'.

When you match Francis Ngannou at this point in his career vs ether Tyson Fury II or Deontay Wilder 'Astonishingly, Ngannou may be better than Fury or Wilder in certain areas of their game. And that was why stylistically Francis Ngannou always had a chance against Tyson Fury, and right now? He has a similar chance of beating Deontay Wilder'.

If a fight between the two fighters was to happen 'Deontay Wilder should be the favourite to win. But stylistically Francis Ngannou is a real chance of winning' etc.

Lol. Wow. What a tough conversation! Ooo-kay then. Another keyboard tough guy. Don't want to be congenial. No exchange of ideas. Just schoolyard insults. But a quick inventory of posting history has you fully figured out. Lightweight fan. I Can't make a lot of time for some frustrated kid with demonstrated knowledge limits who wants to argue that water isn't wet.

I've tried to explain why what I've said sticks as fact, I've genty alluded to a connection to the sport, and you've got kid type issues with that. Your opinion, though obviously silly and inaccurate, is very important to you. No worries. Stay just the way you are. Your understanding of boxing and MMA, very clearly is a great deal lighter than your bravado on a message board, but Try to attend a few fights some day if the landscaping company (or whatever) will give you the weekend off, and continue your stubborn acquisition of knowledge about prizefighting, or don't. If you did continue learning, you would discover soon enough that a boxer is ALL Francis Ngannou is. The Wrestling, Submission Grappling and Kickboxing/Muay Thai that he possess is that of a non-fighter student. Just an intoduction. No wrestling competition, no advanced belt in any martial art, no complete Muay Thai, Submission Grappling/BJJ, Karate or Judo training, ever.

Just enough cross training to weave his boxing into the rules of MMA un******ed. Check, stuff, scramble and take em' out with boxing, G&P or the rudiments of submission. Nothing more. That works for him perfectly.

For him it was a self-douber's choice to stick with MMA whereas he made no big money until he tried his skills in the big leagues and failed.
But boxing against hybrid grapplers and kickboxers; he's been amazing.


Sage advise kid. Try not to get strongly opinionated about anything until after you develop a base of knowledge. Those types comprise most of the kids who post in NSB. Can't learn a dammed thing from em', and they don't want to learn anything from those more deeply inside of the sport.
