Comments Thread For: Oscar De La Hoya calls out Xander Zayas for Vergil Ortiz fight fallout

Oscar De La Hoya hoped for nothing more than to have closed a deal for a terrific junior middleweight matchup ahead of his latest round of golf. Instead, the Hall of Fame former six-division titlist and current chairman of Golden Boy Promotions felt compelled to add his two cents to an unfortunate development in talks between Vergil Ortiz and WBO 154lbs titlist Xander Zayas.?

Damn. Xander Zayas is a Puerto Rican pvssy?

A 50/50 split of a PPV to be held in Las Vegas seems quite fair to me.

Oscar ought stop baring and do something for boxing and fight fans instead of looking to the highest payday for himself and getting attention when he wants it...............Guy used to be much more respected as a fighter then as a promoter that is four sure. Prob got better and more respect when fighting then as a citizen...

Isn't Fundora going to defend his title vs the "GREAT ONE" Keith Thurman?
          Must have a volunteer defense.

None of these guys wanna fight each other anymore and then when they do fight they play it safe and don’t even look like they’ve been in a fight when it’s done

It's a title fight what more do you want? Fundora is fighting Thurman and Ennis is ducking. Murtazaliev would be a good option.

UFC is about to do away with the ppv model, have every big fight on cable TV, and boxing can’t even get guys together for a ppv fight. This sport is about to come even more obsolete.

So months ago team Ortiz asked Zayas for a fight and gave him a deadline to accept, which he immediately did. Then team Ortiz changed their mind and went in a different direction after stringing Zayas along.
Now Zayas is a world champ and Ortiz has nothing to offer, yet they asked for 50/50 and a location that benefits them. Zayas countered by saying they can fight, but in PR.

Can anyone think of any past instance where a world champion gave up 50/50 and preferred location to the challenger who has never been champion and has no real fan following?
