A few days ago Badlefthook posted "Ortiz vs Lubin reportedly agreed for October". Too many rumors in this industry. Click bait? I don't know. But, it's tiring. Regarding this article, I doubt Zayas wants to jump into his first defense against Ortiz, who I think beats him. Even more so, I don't think Top Rank wants him to fight Ortiz next, unless he only has one fight left on his contract.

Can anyone think of any past instance where a world champion gave up 50/50 and preferred location to the challenger who has never been champion and has no real fan following?tokon likes this.

Didn't know Ortiz without a title would be a 50/50 split, otherwise it would be a good pay day for Zayas if those terms are real. Would like to see why they rejected the offer since they wanted to fight Ortiz and he went elsewhere.

Desperation! They now realize that Xander's team has a good plan and that Ortiz is now on the outside looking in. Fundora taking a stay busy fight to bank some coin, Zayas will do the same and then a unification fight with a rematch clause. Three good paydays and Ortiz now has to face Murtazliev to stay in the mix or hope for Ryadh $ to force Fundora or Zayas to change course.
Smells like GBP is heading for rough times financially. No Canelo $ safety net plus Ryadh is established and doesn't need to throw $ around anymore.
Last option is 25% to face Lara @160, but not sure the chin holds up if they try to unify after that..so no guaranteed big $ @ 160.
Ortiz needs to be smart with his $ cause others are playing with his health to make $.tokon likes this.

If Zayas did agree to 50/50 in PR or the MSG, then Golden Boy is dead wrong here, especially since this is not the most difficult bout at 154 for Ortiz.

When Fulton and Tapales went to Japan being UNIFY Champs for Inoue to face them.
Puerto Rico doesn't bring Money that is needed to pay the boxers. Zayas doesn't bring in the bigger Money, Vergil does.

Yet the truth is that Ortiz is the more accomplished fighter of the two, without a doubt. Also, it is up for debate whose value is higher economically. Zayas does bring the faithful Puerto Rican fans, but beyond that he doesn't have much of a name. The same goes for Ortiz, neither of them has actually established themselves as a big name yet who could at least bring in decent PPV numbers.
