Thanks for the memories. One tiny note: it's Brian NIELSEN, not "Nielson".

That was a lot more fun to read than I thought it would be. Kudos to author Matt Christie for that, and for knowing enough about all those fights to compile such a list.

So according to this article his two best fights/wins were against a blown up light heavyweight in Spinks and a 2 years retired, 38 year old Larry Holmes. I'd personally rather watch his two wars with Ruddock (ranked 8th and 20th here) but what do I know...

This is great! While you’re doing mediocre champions, do Oleg Maskaev next.

In the final analysis, those are indeed his two best wins. Tyson lost all his biggest fights beyond those. I have a lot of good things to say about Mike as a fighter and as a person, in recent years, but I’ve also always said he’s overrated.

Tyson fought some credible contenders on his way up the ranks. He fought often and was at his best when he was trained by Kevin Rooney. His career tanked after he fired Rooney, came out of prison and got beaten up by Holyfield during bite night. After that Tyson was a good B level fighter. He was a mismanaged fighter by Don King. He also lost every fight against the best fighters of his time. Tyson had a trainer set for him by Cus D Mato. As Tyson got away from his roots, he was never the same fighter again.

I feel the same. I've met him twice, once when I was 11 after he had just won his first strap and again earlier this year like 38 years later lol. He flipped when I showed him the picture we took together when we were both much younger. Blew me away both times what a nice person he is and what a big heart he has. I feel he's still an all time great and he certainly had the tools and the potential to be the greatest of all time but when casuals constantly rate him against a Mack truck it's kind of ridiculous.

Awesome to read all that, man. Very cool story. Mike’s only six months younger than me, so we’re contemporaries. I remember his run well; it was a big part of the late eighties and early nineties. I wasn’t a fan of his years ago. But over time he grew on me, especially after reading his autobiography Undisputed Truth. Rarely has this sport known someone as exciting to watch, who created such electricity. A legend was born — and rightfully so — but as with most legends, the reality is overblown. My personal opinion is that Tyson, at his absolute peak, might’ve beaten any heavyweight that ever lived. I’d give him a real shot versus anyone. But his pinnacle was very brief. Objectively he doesn’t belong in the top ten of all heavyweights. But man, he was something.
