It was a really good fight. It established Crawford as an elite fighter (despite maybe being helped with rehydration on fight night). Mickey garcia ducked Gamboa which left him open for Crawford and he rose to the occasion. Beating a tough, prime, undefeated Cuban who was faster than lightning

Great fight and awesome introduction to Crawford - this was the first time I had seen him fight.
Gamboa did wobble Crawford a bit and that was some good drama.
I've been a big fan ever since that night.

I was so hyped during this fight. I knew my boy Gamboa was severely undersized, but he was giving Crawford a real run for his money. IIRC, Yuri was actually winning at one point. He was looking really good. Then reality set in — Bud adjusted and asserted his size advantage, and it was over.

Gamboa got too ****y and kept his lead hand down, and that’s how Crawford was able to fully took control of that fight. Hand down, man down.

Yeah, that’s true, and Gamboa always fought that way; but I don’t care what he did or didn’t do, Yuri wasn’t beating the (much) bigger man.

Like many others that is the first time I watched Crawford tight and the first time I took notice of him.

That's how I remembered it, Gamboa was winning early and looking really good. He had buzzed Crawford at one point if I recall correctly. Bud made his adjustments and the rest is history.

I thought it was a fight that lived up to expectations. Gamboa looked sharp and motivated. He had his moments and then Bud locked in and had his which provided some ebb and flow to the affair.

On a side note, the first I had seen Crawford was during the Rios/Alvarado fight. I remember Lampley mentioning the undercard results and there was a short clip of Crawford and Prescott.

Crawford was just too big for Gamboa. He basically said as much in the post-fight interview. Yuri had started his pro career at 126 FFS. He was really too small for 135. The fact that he even made this affair interesting said a lot. Gamboa was a special fighter at featherweight, where he should have stayed. Now Bud is about to take on the king of 168. It would be ironic if he himself was brought down in spectacular fashion by a bigger man.

Anyone with eyes can see there was 2-3 wgt class difference.
