He is useless at hw. He was brute force at cruiserweight, beating many guys, losing every round to Usyk.

Every division needs guys like him - experienced but of limited threat, to be used as stepping stones gatekeepers for prospects and contenders as stay-busy fights.

Apart from Whyte’s upcoming execution card, this is pretty much the only name HW with a current fight scheduled. Pretty lame when there are all these phony interim belts.

With a low level opponent like this probably no vada testing for gassiev. Just like since 2017.

Wait a minute... this is a non-title match?? Really???

Gassiev could be making more money right now had he stayed at CW. He was a part of the deepest roster in the history of that division. He is likely still able to beat most of what passes for the division right now, and would be in meaningful fights against the top of the division. Sure, he would lose to them, but at least it would be better than fighting club level HWs at the local American Legion.

Urgh.. man wasted his career due to poor matchmaking, promoter errors, and having few injuries on top of it. This kid was an exciting prospect. Amazing power, great chin, highly entertaining. He did lose to Usyk.. but he was 24, and had some memorable fights right before that.

Since then, he's rarely fought, and when he did, he fought tune ups. If he buckled down on the technicals after his fight vs. Usyk, he could be at the top of the HW division.

I was such a huge fan of his earlier in his career... what a shame.

I think he could still have a good career if he's motivated despite obvious limitations, it'd just require the right matchmaking, basically guys who stand in front of him.
I've no idea why he is being matched like this I thought Andrzej Wawrzyk was long retired.

After I would like to see him go after someone Joyce or Chisora. Two very old guys who are past it with name value, not hard to hit and no longer have the stamina.

true but the quality of gassiev (At least in his cruiserweight days) was atg potential, should have stayed in the weak cruiserweight division and reigned there, think he would have handled ramirez (look at what gassiev did to a younger dorticos), billam smith, badou jack and i think he was better than opetaia as well
