I always loved Dwight Braxton, tougher than bricks. When he called himself Dwight Muhammad Qawi, I still loved him. I hope to join him in heaven one day.

Just as I am finishing Tris Dixon's book on his best-known opponent Matthew Saad Muhammad, this devastating news comes in. Dwight was my very first boxing idol, this is really a piece of my youth that goes away.

What a bad way to start a week.

I re-watched Braxton's demolition of Saad Muhammad (I & II) and I recommend all you Gen Y, Gen Z, and anyone else not familiar with Braxton/Qawi/Saad Muhammad to do the same. Nobody mailed it in like today's "Four Kings" BS. They came to fight and the ref let them do it.

Well, yes, .. but,,, for all he gave in the ring and to his fans, the ring took back out of him - so many boxers of that generation die with dementia. I'm pretty sure the young boxers and their families take note of this.

That's true. In Braxton vs Muhammad I & II, both referees Arthur Mercante, Sr. and Carlos Padilla (respectively) should have stopped their fights but waited until Muhammad's corner threw in the towel both times. Saad Muhammad also suffered greatly from too many head blows after his career was over. And this was still in the era of 15 round fights.
Nevertheless, both guys came to fight hard every minute. That's not something we can say about all of today's "elite".

Well, fighting hard every minute takes tremendous stamina - are we to assume that generation had better stamina or maybe something to enhance them. We can see what the right PED does for stamina - exhibit no.1 Rodriguez, the Whirling Dervish, vs Yafai. Tank is a counter puncher, Haney is a jabber/runner/hugger hybrid , Ryan is a mess and Teo is hot and cold round to round and fight to fight - whoever called them the new four kings is guilty of false misrepresentation. I guess Usyk and Inoue are here to fight every minute, Golovkin too when he was at his best.

Excellent fights as was his war with Holyfield 1.
