I just dont understand how a undefeated champion didn't seek legal consulting on taking Margarito to civil court. That man took his zero and could had left permanent damage to him. There was beyond reasonable evidence that Margarito cheated. After the Mosley lost Margarito never achieve anything meaningful and theirs a statement from the state investigator that those wraps was used before. In civil court you can call witness and even ask for lie detector test. Now court in America isnt cheap but I just think his handlers probably just wanted to get money for a rematch rather then go to court but my thing is. Taking someone to court is more than just money. It sets a tone for people and future people you will be held accountable for things that you do that are wrong.
I had to go to civil court for damages I found I found 5 months after I brought a property. It was water damage. I gather paperwork, witness statement and expert opinions. For prior damages. Now court isnt cheap. Now the lawyer stated it would cost more to try to case then what I would actually win. Now cotto's team probably felt the same but if he did do it. It would stop alot of future boxers for cheating in the future if they knew they would be taken to court. We keep seeing boxers tearing postive and etc with no repercussions but if they get that court slip in the mail they would start to think differently trying to cheat.
I don’t disagree at all. I would have gone to court as well no matter how much it cost.
Here’s the thing though, Cotto is one of the very few boxers who has never been disrespectful to anyone. No drama, no trash talking and lives a very simple life in his hometown.
Has never complained about a loss. When asked about Margarito, his response was very simple - “Only Margarito knows the truth”.
So, my speculation is, Cotto just moved on and didn’t want to get into a legal tussle. He got his win in the rematch and that’s all that mattered to him.

Margarito was starting to get momentum in that second fight in the later third of the fight just like he did in the first one and he was stopped but not by cotto. They should of had the trilogy and settled the tie in the ring, considering cotto was the A side, it seems like the trilogy didn’t happen because he didn’t want it to. I’m not saying Margarito would have won the rematch or the trilogy, but let’s call it what it is.
Margacheato was at the point of losing an eye after that fight. I don't recall him fighting after that. Besides , **** him. He didn't deserve that paycheck , Cotto definitely had no reason to put even more money in the scumbags pocket. Cotto was clearly the better fighter anyway.

It's quite obvious Margarito had been using those wraps for some time. I believe he had them in the Paul Williams fight as well, but it wasn't enough. Probably Cintron, too.
That's what happens when you're a cheat. You don't get the benefit of the doubt.
