The new Fundora is a vastly improved beast. Having said that I would love to see that fight - in fact any fight involving the leading 5 fighters at 154.
Comments Thread For: Xander Zayas still keen on a Sebastian Fundora showdown?

It's his best shot at unifying. But I agree with you. he probably needs another fight on the championship level first.

Lmfao. I seriously doubt that Arum matches Zayas up with Fondura at this point in his career.
This feels like the ole TR okie doke where they throw a name out that is associated with PBC, makes some crap offer they know will not be accepted, then make an easy fight and blame it on him being ducked.Last edited by The Big Dunn; 07-30-2025, 05:08 AM.Comment

Xander Zayas: Why He’s the Weakest Link Among the Six 154-Pound Champions
By Jeepers Isaac - 07/27/2025
Boxing News 24/7
Xander Zayas joined the ranks of the 154-lb champions with his 12-round unanimous decision victory over #2 ranked Jorge Garcia (33-5, 26 KOS) to win the vacant WBO junior middleweight title at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City.
Is Zayas the Weakest Link?
Zayas looks more like the weakest link among the six 154-lb champions. Going by how Xander (22-0, 13 KOs) performed against Garcia and in his previous 21 fights, it’s impossible to view him above any of the current six champions in the division. He’s the Mario Barrios of the 154-lb division. In other words, he’s a champion in name only and will hold onto his belt only as long as he doesn’t fight any of the top fighters in the junior middleweight division.
Can Xander Beat Top 154s?
Bakhram Murtazaliev – IBF
Sebastian Fundora – WBC
Terence Crawford – WBA
Xander Zayas – WBO
Vergil Ortiz Jr. – WBC interim
Yoenis Tellez – WBA interim
Looking at that list, is there anyone in the division that Zayas can beat that would put him above the others? I don’t see any fighter that he can beat. Casual fans who aren’t familiar with the WBA interim champion Yoenis Tellez might say Zayas would beat him. He wouldn’t. The Cuban Tellez hits way too hard, and the tricks that Xander used to beat Garcia, holding and moving, wouldn’t be effective against him...

100%...he's LUCKY he fought for a vacant belt otherwise he'd never be world champion in a division with killers like Crawford, Murtaz, Ortiz, Boots and even Fundora & Madrimov. Very fortunate match-making.Comment

If he wants the smoke then lets make it happen! Canāt knock on someone challenging themselves!
If he was to say āNoā weād be saying he is ducking. Isnt this what we want. Title holders trying to unify?Comment

He ought to stay away from the champs right now. I'd like to see him step with Bohachuk, and I don't think he beats Bohachuk. Then the 6th champ of the division has some kind of belt at least.
I don't see him taking that match, esp if Zayaz only stands the chance of losing his belt and not gaining one, but I'd like to see Bohachuk get a strap.Comment
