Comments Thread For: Dubois Dips: Is it ever okay to accuse a fighter of quitting?

Only men and women who know the pain of taking punches and accepting defeat can understand the feelings experienced by a boxer on their knees, writes Elliot Worsell.

Simon Jordan is an edgelord radio presenter who appeals to the same type of terminally online mouth breather who calls boxers "quitters" from the safety of Twitter with beer guts. It's boring.

I thought Dubois looked out on his feet as he walked back to the corner.

I prefer to use the term "retired". Dubois was retired by Usyk n the 5th round.

              Why is it an accusation?

The word "quit" is simply a verb used to describe when someone opts not to continue with something.

Plenty of fighters make the decision to opt out during a fight when they could continue of they truly wanted, even they're likely to get hurt again.

If Dubois can get up at 10 and stroll back to his corner looking fine, then I'll say he chose not to beat the count, therefore, quit is the correct verb.

He declined to rise from the canvas in time to beat the count. Also, his corner, seeing their fighter wasn't going to beat the count, tried in vain to save him the embarrassment by throwing in the towel at about the count of 8.
