In any sport, physically gifted have come out on the losing end to those who have never possessed that same level of talent. More often than not, the reason why this occurs revolves around the mentality of both the victor and the vanquished. Sometimes it's intellect, other times it's what is known as mental toughness, or mental fragility.
It is the last example that has seen Tim Tszyu's fall from grace, a malfunction with the railway crossing that turned into a train wreck. Even his opponents have spoke about it, how they notice a little something here, a little something there, hardly noticeable but noticed it was.(Do you notice what I'm saying ?)
What transpired before Tsyzu....was aware of it, was just enough to completely unravel a guy that probably never had to endure the darkest depths of hell, that which some fighters experience, not by choice, before they became men.
If you've never had to fight and scratch your way out of hell previously, a sudden decent with the eyes of the world watching on, is going to present questions that don't always provide suitable answers.
The suggestion that Tim Tszyu quit against Fundura is as ignorant as it is moronic. The guy copped a hammering, yet he kept fighting back where others have gone down, and stayed down. Combined with his obvious state of mind that was being held together with clag glue, my opinion at the time was that if he doesn't retire, he may eventually come back bigger and better than ever, or at the very least transform into the main attraction in the Big Top.
I liked what I saw in his last fight. A more centred approach without the need to seek and destroy. He took his time and dominated, but the most important thing I noticed was that he seemed to be enjoying it.
I think he's climbing out of his hole, and once you've been in hell, you know what it takes to drag others back down there with you. Hell is your domain and once you've overcome your demons, hell holds no fears.
Take your time, slowly dissecting as you drag them into deep water, no panic because you're induced with a sense of lust, a combination of self belief and a passion for brutality. Reborn.
We won't have to wait long. It will be there for all to see in his next big fight. Meanwhile other fighters will be taking a knee, then getting up just as the ref counts 10.
Tomorrow: Chapter 2- MY life on the Front + winning the Iron Cross.
