  • How come Ali fans are afraid of comparisons to Usyk?

They both fought the best of their eras. Usyk is doing it in 2 divisions without losing a single time.

They’re both heroes to their people. Usyk is the more respectful role model.

It’s fine to think Ali is greater. But to act like Usyk isn’t even in the conversation as one of the Goats now just reeks of insecurity and fear of genuine conversation. Personally, I think Usyk is better P4P.

Has nothing to do with race. I rank Crawford extremely high too even thought lots of people try to downplay him.

You cant compare Usyk to Ali, totally different ball game. Ali spent his whole life at heavyweight defeating challenger after challenger. Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers. The 70's was such a rich era of heavyweight talent that its unmatched.

Uysk talent wise you can make comparisons to Ali, but the accomplishments at strictly heavyweight are too far apart.

Usyk is an ATG, but he's in his own category, a cruiserweight who leveled up and achieved glory, but with only 24 fights, Ali has almost triple the amount of fights. Can you make an argument that Usyk would beat Ali? Sure, but the resumes are just different. If you take Usyks body of work from his amateurs to Cruiserweight and then Heavyweight you'd have a better argument, but then it's an argument about P4P.

In any case there is no need to make Usyk out to be better than Ali, or Ali better than Usyk, they're different, different eras, different weight divisions, different pool of available contenders for each, but if we're talking only heavyweights then Ali has the far better resume, its not close.

You guys can’t assume the 70s was a better era, boxing wasn’t even a major thing in Europe or most of the world back then. Competition today is much fiercer. So you can’t assume Liston/Frazier/Foreman were better than AJ/Fury/Dubois, or that Patterson and Lyle were better than Gassiev Breidis Glowacki etc. Ultimately you can only fight who they put in front of you and Ali had losses while Usyk doesn’t.

Ali had 5 losses which people like to overlook. Usyk’s cruiserweight career is appreciated only by hardcore boxing fans.

I'm not even all that much of an Ali fan and I think head to head it'd be a 50/50 fight, but if we are talking about resume at HW there is no comparison. Ali was pro for almost a decade longer and has over twice as many wins at HW than Usyk has wins - period. Usyk has fought a grand total of 5 opponents at HW for ****s sake.

you can't even compare the records, Usyk has 24 fights counting the CW, Ali has triple that and lost almost four years of his prime, and any of the of the names he fought could have put a whooping on Usyk, especially Foreman, fierce? You're kidding, I seen Aj scare against a 5-foot-300-pound Mexican, and a 6.7 gypsy clowning around the ring, Dubois quitting, and so on, I had seen Ali fight 15 rounds with a broken jaw. There's no comparison.

Because it is a dumb comparison. Evander Holyfield has a better resume than Usyk and its still not a competition

And at least two gift wins ( Young and Norton 3 ) , some fights of debate where he edged it ( Jones, Shavers ) and too many oops moments ( Cooper, Wepner and Banks ) Oh there is more where this came from. Usyk had no such pimples on his resume.

I can't say because I don't know anything about Usyk. I know a lot about Muhammad though.

Did Usyk take 3-4 of his prime years off, come back and pick up where he left off?

                    Ali did.
