Comparing Usyk to Ali is laughable.

I’m one of the biggest Usyk fans on this board but he is nowhere near the level of Ali in terms of greatness.

Ali beat 7 HOF’ers and we’re talking absolute legends too. Frazier x2, Foreman, Liston x2, Norton x2, Patterson x2, Foster, Moore. Usyk probably has 2 on the resume in Fury and AJ.

Ali also held the lineal HW title 3 times, reclaiming it for a second time nearly a decade after his first reign began, after having over 3 years of his prime taken from him. Foreman was expected to absolutely murder him too. I think people forget how big of an upset that was. It would be like Wilder beating Usyk- unthinkable.

The overall impact Ali had on boxing and the world in general was astronomical too.

I won’t downplay Usyk’s achievements at all. Incredible run at Cruiserweight, unified the titles in his opponents backyards, then essentially done the same up at Heavyweight. 3x Undisputed Champion and undoubtedly a modern great but putting him above Ali is madness IMO. It’s simply recency bias or people who do not actually know what they’re talking about.

Lest we forget Ali living, being an activist and fighting during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement.

I thought that thread was a joke until I started reading comments.

The recency bias and lack of awareness is worrisome.

Patterson isn’t a “legend” stop it lol. As for Norton and Frazier, they both beat Ali in their first fights with him

          Come on man.

Olympic gold medalist, broke the record as the youngest ever Heavyweight Champion at only 21, two time lineal HW champion and first man to regain it, made like 5 or 6 defences. Defeated Moore and Johansson who are both IBHOF’ers.

If you’re not familiar with Patterson that’s cool, but don’t try and discredit the guy.

Usyk is only fighting who is available in his era, and he has set himself apart from everyone else in doing. A lot of trainers and fighters agree that Usyk would hold his own in the stronger eras of heavyweight boxing.

Its natural to postulate how a great of our era measures up against the greatest of other eras.

Dude, quit pretending like you’re some kind of boxing historian.

Not every fighter is a “legend” just because they had accomplishments. Stop throwing around the term when it suits your argument. Patterson had a glass jaw, was way past his best and had like 4-5 losses by the time Ali fought him.

He wasn’t a great win for Ali, don’t be disingenuous.

Agreed but it would be CRIMINAL if AJ enters the HoF when the only notable name on his CV is an old Klitschko. Therefore, Usyk has only really beaten one HoF in Fury but is definitely the best Heavyweight of his generation.

Just say you don't know who Floyd Patterson is outside of being a guy that Ali beat.
