  • Comments Thread For: Muteness and mantras: the workouts of Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois

On Tuesday at a hotel in the shadow of Wembley Stadium it was Frank Warren who mostly spoke on behalf of Daniel Duboisn. On Wednesday, it was instead his trainer Don Charles...

"Dubois is attempting to dethrone the most complete-and-professional active fighter of them all. "

and there's Declan Warrington promoting the fight to the readership. Usyk is a fantastic boxer, has fantastic endurance, he hits hard enough, he's truly accomplished - but he's not a God.
I would say Teofimo, and Bud are more complete fighters - but they are not so accomplished as of now. And what does "most professional" even mean?

Totally agree. A lot of people may be eating their words Saturday night. Just look at the DAZN behind the scenes footage from the two fighters’ training camp.

Usyk is strutting around in Spain, surrounded by his sycophantic entourage members (except for the manager who was highly responsible for his success but has now been booted out by Usyk). He’s holding post-workout get-togethers at a video arcade where he celebrates when his team wins some kind of war video game (which is an especially bad look given that Usyk’s fellow Ukrainians are still shooting REAL guns bravely defending their country each day). He comes off as overconfident and borderline arrogant.

Meanwhile, Dubois is working out in some secluded gym that’s been created on a horse farm, hammering away on old school punching bags, submerging himself in old-school ice tubs and obsessing about only one thing: getting in the ring on July 19 and punching holes in Usyk.

      I’m picking Dubois.

I'll be serving CROW after the fight. No excuses will be entertained when Daniel The Destroyer Dubois brutally KO's Usyk. Heavyweight boxing is now about to enter the era of The Big Doobie.
Ya'll are going to learn. So it is written , so it shall be done .

I don't know. I am not buying the narrative that somehow this fight is going to be vastly different than the first one. It is true that Usyk is getting older and at some point the father time will beat him - if he keeps fighting. However, I still think he has two good fights in him and I cannot see who beats him at the moment. DDD always has a "punchers chance" which is how these fights are sold. But every time this phrase is sold to the public, 9 times out of 10 the better boxer wins.

Right now, Kabayel, Dubois and possibly Itauma are the front line contenders to the throne - when the king retires.

Until someone beats Usyk I am backing the man I have backed since before he was unified CW. All this talk about DuBois KO-ing Usyk is because everyone knows there is zero other way DuBois wins this. He will not command the ring over Usyk, he will not outwork Usyk, he will not adjust to the fight better than Usyk. DuBois 100% can KO Usyk into retirement. The man has power, and has shown some serious focus in the ring. His win over AJ was dominant. He is a threat.

But all I really see is Usyk playing it safe for a few rounds, let DuBois chase him around the ring, than slowly pick up the pace and the offense once he has figured out DuBois plans and just scoring often and convincingly as the fight goes on with his high revved motor and near endless gas tank. Usyk wins a UD that is not even as close as the scorecards will show.
