Is Vergil Ortiz another US diva fighter?

Seems he would prefer to dictate things than fight regularly, like many other US fighters. If this report is to be believed, Ortiz turned down the opportunity to fight Bakhram Murtazaliev, citing a weak excuse. He presumably wants to sit on his 'interim' bauble and wait for his email belt.

Wishful thinking Lady Coverdale...Vergil has defeated 2 Eastern European killers in a row (Madrimov & Bohachuk) so I don't think he's ducking anybody.

Kind of an odd excuse but no. The guy has literally had two wars against two top 10 guys and now he's supposed to go into a 3rd one? That's a murderers row right there. Ortiz definitely deserves a soft touch or he'll end his career early like Francisco vargas.

2 hard fights in his entire career and now he can go easy? Usyk has fought joshau twice, Fury twice and dubois twice in his last 6. Innoue fought 3 top 5 guys in a row and was scheduled for a 4th before goodman ran away. That's how you become a top fighter. If you want to pick and peck here and there fine but if you are the real deal you fight. Especially now with that saudi money.

Better to burn out quickly with glory than artificially extended your career with soft touches waiting for baldomirs and things like that to pop up

No but nobody can accuse him of ducking anybody after his last 2 opponents. Also, both Usyk & Inoue are the joint best fighter's in the world so it's not a fair comparison. Anyway, I'm sure that Turki has a good fight lined up for him later this year after his last performance against Madrimov.

MEH , Virgil just fought 2 wars back to back . Also going to take into consideration Virgil was out of action for a long time and had some serious health issues w/ the kung flu and rhabdomyolysis.

I don't know if I'd call him a diva, but yes, yes the US does have a lot of diva fighters.

It just seems too many would rather stay inactive while waiting for the optimum opportunity rather than take what's on offer. I think bad advice and 'interim' baubles are contributing to this.

In the interest of fairness, I think Callum Smith's decision to sit on his WBOgus 'interim' rather than fight Benavidez is a terrible decision.

Well, Ortiz himself seems to want the fight so I stand corrected. Looks like Boots and Bakhram are his targets: Vergil Ortiz says Jaron "Boots" Ennis "is the fight that has to happen"
