That’s some interesting insight: Bradley thought the fight was over before it started when he detected fear in Berlanga’s face. Don’t know if that’s true or not; but when you talk big prior to a fight, it increases the pressure to deliver. That much is certain. It’s possible Edgar was feeling the weight of that going in.

A lot of fans knock Bradley's analysis, and that's fair enough, but one thing I think he's always done well is
speak to the mental aspects of the fight game. Same for Teddy Atlas.

I had the same feeling myself about Berlanga. He seemed to be concerned about everybody except Sheeraz. Was it funny throwing lingerie at ODH? Yes but where was Berlanga's focus? He suffered a brutal knockout. Can he come back? Doubtful. Reminds me of the Dominican, Jose "the threat" Baret. Starling knocked him out and he was never the same.

The mental game is huge in sports. I love getting some insight with regards to that. Edgar doesn’t seem the type that would bounce back well. That loss was a tough one. Could be wrong, of course.

Berlanga believed in his own hype and thought the fight would just be a showcase fight for him as reflected in his behavior in the presscons. He's been bragging about doing well in the Canelo fight. Clapping his gloves when he goes down makes him think it's something to be proud of.

Wow! You really took me back with that one! Baret was from my old neighborhood in Washington Heights, in upper-Manhattan. Haven’t thought about that guy in decades — probably since he lost to Starling. Lol I have a recollection of being at my friend’s sixth-floor apartment on 175th street. I happened to be looking out the window, and caught sight of Jose standing next to his sports car (I believe it was a Camaro or Firebird). This was 1982 — I was 16 then — and I remember noting how skinny his legs looked. Lol Funny the things you remember…and so strange to see that name after so many years. Anyway…it’s a good comparison. Baret seemed so promising. He was knocking everyone out. I recall watching one of his fights on TV. But that first loss sent his career down the chute.
